Vita/Bio
Dr. Karen Harris Brown is Associate Director for the Virgin Islands University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (VIUCEDD). While she is a new member of the VIUCEDD team, Dr. Brown is no stranger to the U.S. Virgin Islands. She is a native Virgin Islander who recently returned home after 29 years of living on the U.S. mainland. Prior to her role with VIUCEDD, Dr. Brown was a tenured Associate Professor of Speech-language Pathology and served as director of that program. She has 24 years of experience as a speech-language pathologist and maintains the Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). She continues to practice and works at the local hospital on St. Thomas when needed. Additionally, Dr. Brown has served as an academic site visitor for the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA) and national steering committee member for Special Interest Group 14, Cultural and Linguistic Diversity. She is a recent graduate of the National Leadership Consortium on Developmental Disabilities and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Act Early Ambassador to the U.S. Virgin Islands.
