Vita/Bio

Joshuaa D. Allison-Burbank, Ph.D., CCC-SLP, CPH (Diné/Acoma Pueblo) is a speech-language pathologist at Northern Navajo Medical Center in Shiprock, NM, which is located on the Navajo Nation. Previously, Dr. Allison-Burbank worked as a Project Coordinator for the Culturally Responsive Early Literacy Instruction: American Indian/Alaska Native at the University of Kansas. He provided mentoring and clinical supervision to trainees in the Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities interdisciplinary training program at the University of Kansas Medical Center.


His clinical and research interests include community assessment and capacity building, parent training and advocacy, prevention research, culturally responsive teaching, and surveillance of neurodevelopmental disabilities in tribal communities. Dr. Allison-Burbank received his MA and PhD from the University of Kansas with an emphasis on neurodevelopmental disabilities and public health. Dr. Allison-Burbank holds an adjunct lecturer position in the Communication Sciences and Disorders program at the University of Vermont. Joshuaa has held several leadership positions including vice chair of the Multi-Cultural Committee (MCC) within the Association of University Centers on Disabilities and co-chair of the Native American Caucus within the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). Dr. Allison-Burbank currently lives in Waterflow, NM where he operates Nááts'íilid (Rainbow) Farms which is a shared learning space that focuses on food sovereignty, indigenous seed banking, and farming/irrigation coaching for local tribal early childhood programs and Navajo families.
