Core Description

The overall objective of the Administrative Core is to ensure that the Center operates to fulfill broad goals compatible with the mission of NICHD IDDRCs. The Core strives to link federally funded area investigators whose research is relevant to mental retardation and developmental disabilities. In addition, it facilitates multidisciplinary research and research training aids in the translation of basic research findings to clinical application.

The Administrative Core facilitates interaction among Center investigators and insures that the research in gentics as well as basic and clinical/translational neuroscience retains direct relevance to mental retardation and developmental disabilities. In addition to providing an infrastructure for the Center, the Core assists in the conduction of a seminar series, special lectures and meetings and ensures dissemination of scientific information emanating from this Center.

Our lecture series and journal clubs play a particularly important role in increasing interactions among our scientists. In addition, the Core provides other administrative/managerial support functions, including:

  • Provision of current information regarding availability of funding sources
  • Assistance with budgets, bio-sketches and other support information
  • Assistance with compliance issues concerning NIH regulations regarding animal welfare and inclusion of women and minorities in human research
