Trainee Scholarships

Application Deadline: October 17

AUCD is pleased to announce the availability of 20 trainee travel scholarships of up to $500 each AND 4 trainee volunteer scholarships of up to $500 each to support AUCD Trainees in attending the AUCD Conference. Scholarships are available to (a) current trainees and (b) former trainees presenting work conducted while a trainee. The AUCD Conference is an amazing learning and networking opportunity!

Travel Scholarships

Trainees may apply for funding support to attend the AUCD Conference. No on-site duties are required of trainees receiving these scholarships, though post-event summaries are required for a trainee to receive the scholarship. Up to 20 trainees will receive these scholarships of up to $500 each.

How to Get the Funds

  1. Trainees (or their Center) are expected to pay all costs associated with their attendance at the conference upfront in their entirety.
  2. After attending the Conference, trainees awarded travel scholarships are required to document their experience at the AUCD Conference so that AUCD may share it with the larger community. The following are required:
    1. attend and actively participate in the trainee networking session on Sunday evening
    2. attend and actively participate in the trainee focus group during the Monday lunch hour
    3. document your impressions and experience by answering the following questions by either (a:preferred) spending approximately 10 minutes being interviewed at the AUCD conference in front of a video camera or (b) submitting your answers in writing within 30 days to AUCD. Your responses may be used by AUCD to create short videos or other marketing pieces about the conference, the training program, and the AUCD network.
    4. provide feedback throughout the year to AUCD requests. AUCD is planning in 2017 to roll out several new materials and we would like to have current trainees review them before their release. We will send you the new product or brochure and ask some pointed questions about your reactions to the item. It is estimated there will be 2 requests per year.
  3. After completing the first three items above, trainees awarded the travel scholarships must submit a proper reimbursement form and relevant receipts to AUCD detailing their reimburseable travel costs. The form must be sent to AUCD not later than 30 days after the end of the Conference. All applicable receipts (keep a copy for your records) must be included. AUCD will then reimburse allowable travel expenses to the trainees awarded scholarships for this year.

Volunteer Scholarships

Volunteering at the AUCD Conference is a great opportunity to not only reduce your costs of attending the Conference but also receive hands-on leadership and learning opportunities about the AUCD network and the management of a national Conference. The trainees receiving these scholarships are required to complete 6 hours of volunteer time at the AUCD Conference by assisting AUCD staff. Possible volunteer activities include staffing the registration table, assisting with trainee-related events, staffing concurrent sessions and symposia as well as other activities as volunteer schedules allow. Trainee volunteers will be manged by and report to AUCD's Meeting Intern.

How to Get the Funds

  1. Trainees (or their Center) are expected to pay all costs associated with their attendance at the conference upfront in their entirety.
  2. Trainees volunteering must communicate with the AUCD staff member and show up at the appointed time and place, and carry out appointed activities. If there is an activity the trainee would like to attend that either might pose a conflict for volunteering or that the trainee would like to specifically volunteer at, the trainee must communciate that to AUCD before the Conference.
  3. Trainees awarded the volunteer scholarships must submit a proper reimbursement form and relevant receipts to AUCD detailing their travel costs. The form must be sent to AUCD not later than 30 days after the end of the Conference. All applicable receipts (keep a copy for your records) must be included. AUCD will then reimburse allowable travel expenses to the trainees awarded scholarships for this year.

All trainees attending the Conference are eligible for a reduced base registration fee for the Conference, excluding events which have an extra registration cost.

Application Process

Interested trainees for either opportunity are requested to submit a brief application online here. Note: trainees are welcome to apply for both scholarship types, but only one scholarship will be awarded per trainee. Download the attached application form and fill it out, submitting the completed form online as well as required attachments. The application must include the following and will ONLY be accepted online:

  2. a current resume/CV

What is an Allowable Expense?

Travel expenses allowable under this scholarship include coach class air or reasonable ground travel and hotel accommodations. Additional details on allowable costs are included with the reimbursement form. Registration and poster charges for the Conference are not allowable.

Deadlines

The deadline for this application is October 17. Trainees who have been selected will be notified shortly afterward so that they may register for the conference if the Trainees haven not done so already. The Conference registration deadline is November 18.

The deadline for submitting the summary statement and travel expense form to AUCD is not later than 30 days after the conclusion of the Conference, or January 8. This is a firm deadline and submission of expenses after this date may result in you not receiving the scholarship funds.
