Trainee Scholarships

Application Deadline: September 30, 2018

AUCD is pleased to announce the availability of 26 trainee travel scholarships of up to $500 each AND 4 trainee volunteer scholarships of up to $500 each to support AUCD Trainees in attending the AUCD Conference. Scholarships are available to (a) current trainees and (b) former trainees presenting work conducted while a trainee and completed their traineeship no earlier than December 2017. Priority will be given to those who have not attended the Conference before. The AUCD Conference is an amazing learning and networking opportunity!

Travel Scholarships (26 available)

Trainees may apply for funding support to attend the AUCD Conference, including hotel, air or comparable travel, or other expenses (excluding registration). These scholarships are valued at up to $500 each.

Travel Scholarship Requirements

Those who receive Trainee Travel Scholarships are required to recommend a fellow Trainee that you meet during the AUCD Conference for AUCD’s Emerging Leaders Map. The Map’s inaugural launch was in Spring 2018, and we plan to spotlight another excellent group in the 2019 version.

In addition, you will be required to attend specific meetings (to be determined based on interests and availability; see bulleted list below) during the AUCD Conference.  Within 30 days of the Conference (December 14, 2018) Trainee Travel Scholarship recipients will are responsible for submitting at least two (2) paragraphs describing your experiences, then participate in an hour-long focus group call. Your input will help AUCD ensure that all activities are welcoming and inclusive of Emerging Leaders.

More details about specific expectations will be provided upon receipt of the scholarship. Note that submission of required items after the 30-day window (December 14, 2018) may result in zero payment.

Volunteer Scholarships (4 available)

Volunteering at the AUCD Conference is a great opportunity to not only reduce your costs of attending the Conference but also receive hands-on leadership and learning opportunities about the AUCD network and the management of a national Conference. Those who receive Trainee Volunteer Scholarships are required to complete six (6) hours of volunteer time at the AUCD Conference. This may include working at the registration table, assisting with trainee-related events, managing rooms during concurrent sessions and poster symposia, as well as other activities as volunteer schedules allow. AUCD staff will work with you to find roles that fit your skills, interests, and availability as best as possible.

Volunteer Scholarship Requirements

  1. Trainees (or their Center) are expected to pay all costs associated with their attendance at the conference upfront in their entirety.
  2. Trainees volunteering must communicate with the AUCD staff member and show up at the appointed time and place, and carry out appointed activities. If there is an activity the trainee would like to attend that either might pose a conflict for volunteering or that the trainee would like to specifically volunteer at, the trainee must communciate that to AUCD at least two (2) weeks before the Conference.
  3. Trainees awarded the volunteer scholarships must submit a proper reimbursement form and relevant receipts to AUCD detailing their travel costs. The form must be sent to AUCD not later than 30 days (December 14, 2018) after the end of the Conference. All applicable receipts (keep a copy for your records) must be included. AUCD will then reimburse allowable travel expenses to the trainees awarded scholarships for this year.

Application Process

Interested trainees for either opportunity are requested to submit a brief application online here. Note: trainees are welcome to apply for both scholarship types, but only one scholarship will be awarded per trainee. Download the attached application form and fill it out, submitting the completed form online as well as required attachments. The application must include the following and will ONLY be accepted online:

  2. A current resume/CV (limit: 3 pages)
  3. One (minimum) letter of support from your program/center Director or Training Director

What is an Allowable Expense?

Travel expenses allowable under this scholarship include coach class air or reasonable ground travel and hotel accommodations. Additional details on allowable costs are included with the reimbursement form. Registration and poster charges for the Conference are not allowable.

Deadlines

The deadline for this application is September 30, 2018 at 11:59pm ET. Trainees who have been selected will be notified shortly afterward so that they may register for the conference if the Trainees haven not done so already. The Conference registration deadline is October 26.

The deadline for submitting the summary statement and travel expense form to AUCD is not later than 30 days after the conclusion of the Conference, or December 14. This is a firm deadline and submission of expenses after this date may result in you not receiving the scholarship funds.
