This session presents an approach for MCH training programs to reflect on and develop action strategies for addressing cultural and linguistic competence in multiple aspects of their programs. It will utilize a Checklist Series developed by the National Center for Cultural Competence for MCH training programs, with input from MCH training program leaders, that address the following program dimensions: research, experiential learning, learning climate, community engagement and curriculum.

This session will provide an overview of strategies that UCEDDs and LENDs have used in five states to increase awareness about health needs of individuals with disabilities in managed care efforts, such as coordinated and integrated care organizations, state health exchanges, and navigator programs. The University of the District of Clumbia , in collaboration with the Taishoff Center for inclusive Higher Education at Syracuse University and Howard University, have entered a partnership to create an Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Disability Consortium whose purpose is to promote systematic dialog among HBCUs that will support students with disabilities more effectively as they matriculate at their campuses.
Using the SIB-R to assess housing and independent living skills outcomes for postsecondary students with intellectual disabilities.

The focus of this presentation is on the first two years of data collected as part of an ongoing longitudinal study on independent living skills and housing outcomes for postsecondary students with intellectual disabilities. The SIB-R was used to facilitate progress monitoring for individuals and to compare outcomes across disability categories and residential versus commuter students.

Intentional Leadership: Incorporating Leadership Training in MCH Training Programs

The MCHB/AUCD Interprofessional Leadership Learning Collaborative (ILLC) supported 6 teams of 14 training programs to incorporate and evaluate intentional leadership training in their program. During this session, faculty from 4 participating ILLC programs will present their approaches. Participants will then have significant time in small groups to share their own challenges and strategies to incorporate intentional leadership concepts and skills into their training programs.

The Fifth Edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) was released in May 2013, bringing with it several changes for Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) classifications. Panelists will discuss these changes as well as clinical implications, misconceptions and arising problems. This presentation seeks to interrogate the notion of inclusion in disability research by expanding upon 1) the language of advocacy; 2) ideas of voice and inclusion using augmentative and alternative communication (AAC); and 3) Dyadic Interviewing as an emerging interdependent approach to research participation.

This panel will include discussions on (1) evidence-based parented-mediated approaches to early intervention for young children diagnosed with or at risk for ASD, (2) a reliable, valid and easy-to-use assessment tool of parent-child interaction, and (3) making screening and referral services more accessible to families of all cultures through the provision parent-led training sessions for Federally Qualified Health Centers.

Presentations will (1) examine results of the first national assessment of state policies/practices regarding the definition/delivery of behavior support services to people with ID/DD receiving publicly financed supports in the US, (2) describe a continuum of behavioral support spanning health and education, and integrating training, research, and policy, and (3) describe a coaching and training process for rural schools serving student with autism, including the coaching process, online training approaches, data collection forms and procedures, and outcomes.

Presentations will (1) examine how Hmong, Latino, and Somali immigrants and refugees with disabilities access and utilize health services, (2) share the process and findings of a study funded by the CDC, NIH and Autism Speaks that engaged the Somali community in investigating the prevalence of autism in 7-9 year olds using school and clinic records, and (3) discuss an embedded mixed methods research paper consists of measuring providers cultural and linguistic competency knowledge and skills in assessing and screening young children from multi-cultural backgrounds for developmental concerns.
