Session Description

Mr. Bertolini will reflect on how his personal experiences - such as breaking his neck in a severe skiing accident and helping his son successfully overcome a rare and life-threatening cancer - have prepared him for leadership. He will also share his perspectives on organizational change and his role in transforming Aetna into a business and thought leader.

Mark BertoliniMark Bertolini, President, Aetna

Mark T. Bertolini is President of Aetna, which includes oversight and responsibility for all businesses and operations across Aetna's broad range of health care products and related services. Prior to being named president in July 2007, Mr. Bertolini was Executive Vice President and head of Aetna Business Operations. He also served as head of Aetna Regional Businesses, which included Aetna's Individual, Retiree, Small Group and Middle Market segments as well as numerous product, network and service areas.

Mr. Bertolini joined Aetna as head of Aetna Specialty Products in February 2003. He came to Aetna from Cigna HealthCare, where he served in several Senior Vice President positions. Before joining Cigna, he was Executive Vice President of NYLCare Health Plans and Chief Executive Officer of SelectCare, Inc., a multi-lined managed care company in the Greater Detroit metropolitan area.

Mr. Bertolini is a member of the University of Connecticut Health Center Board of Directors, Connecticut Business and Industry Association Board of Directors and, the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. He also serves on the Advisory Board of the Cornell University School of Human Ecology.

Mr. Bertolini holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Wayne State University and a Master of Business Administration in Finance from Cornell University.
