<< Back to Program

Sunday, November 17, 2013 12:30 PM - 3:00 PM

Location: Meeting Room 12/13/14

Session Description

The Act Early Network (AEN) supports states to improve early identification of autism and other developmental disabilities. The AEN is a joint effort of CDC's "Learn the Signs. Act Early." (LTSAE) program, Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA)/Maternal and Child Health Bureau (MCHB), the Association of Maternal and Child Health Programs (AMCHP), and AUCD.

The AEN brings together national and state partners to facilitate targeted dissemination and evaluation of use of LTSAE materials and strategies in state and local community programs that serve families of young children. The overall purpose of the workshop is to begin to develop an action plan to sustain, grow, and improve the AEN's support of state, territorial, and local efforts to increase parent and provider awareness of the importance of developmental monitoring, improve early identification of developmental delays, and enhance collaboration among early childhood programs and systems in states, territories, and communities.

Strategies to connects LTSAE's health education campaign, Act Early State Teams, Act Early Ambassadors, and research and evaluation projects will be examined through an action learning approach. Action learning centers around a challenge or problem for which there is no one discrete correct answer, but rather an adaptive challenge. The aim of applying the action learning process for the AEN is to encourage State Teams, Ambassadors, and partners to think systematically and realistically about how to create recommendations from their experiences that are relevant and actionable. Attendees will develop a draft action plan which applies action learning and learn how the AEN can use action learning to benefit from real time continuous quality improvement on a state and a national level.

Please arrive 15 minutes early to this workshop.
