Advancing Equity and Excellence Through Universal Design for Learning

Monday, November 7, 2011 09:45AM - 12:45PM

Location: Washington Room A/B

Session Description

This symposium will provide participants with a framework and skills to incorporate universal design for learning (UDL) strategies in teaching from early intervention to postsecondary practices. Molly Boyle will provide learners with a basic tool kit of skills to use when approaching teaching and learning. Michael Wehmeyer will contextualize how UDL has helped redefine disability, access, and supports within the general educational curriculum. Lu Zeph will look at the implications of UDL in higher education, both in terms of faculty development and in the re-authorization of the Higher Ed Act. Steven Brown will discuss how UDL has been utilized cross culturally to support inclusive educational practices.

At a later date AUCD will offer a webinar as a follow up to this symposium to continue to build on the concepts and skills discussed and develop a community of practice on UDL.
