Session Description
All posters for the AUCD Conference will be presented throughout Monday and Tuesday in a series of poster symposia that run at the same time as concurrent sessions. During these 75-minute poster symposia, 10-14 posters on a similar theme will be grouped together in a room. Posters will be displayed on large boards and have a table underneath for accompanying materials. The session will be introduced by a moderator followed by brief introductions by presenters. Attendees will then be free to move around the room and connect with individual presenters for the remainder of the session. Attendees are welcome to move between symposia rooms and view posters on other topics. Conference posters will be available to view on the website and in the mobile app.

Music is a means to modulate one's emotions and increase pleasure. And many people have access to music via technology. Learn some effects of music on the body and mind and learn how to modulate your own emotions using music and technology.

Mindful Eating: Mindful Interventions for Adolescents

With the increase in body positive and inclusive practices, there are still widespread issues with access and acceptance for individuals with disabilities. Mindful Eating: Mindful Interventions for Adolescents works to combat this exclusion of individuals with disabilities. Presenters will share program details and results from a 4-week mindful eating based curriculum developed for adolescents with Down Syndrome.

Enhancing Supports for Families of Infants and Toddlers Who Experience Long-term or Recurring Hospitalization

Maryjan Fiala, MS, UCEDD Trainee/Parent, Munroe-Meyer Institute of Genetics & Rehabilitation, UCEDD/LENDLife sustaining therapy can result in hospital admissions extending to months and years. Hospitalization interrupts typical life experiences for infants and toddlers and creates stress for parents, each of which can impact child development. It is therefore necessary to ensure practices exist in these settings that best lead to supported families and optimal child development. This poster presents concerns and opportunities related to optimal development for hospitalized infants and toddlers.
Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities: A Narrative Review of Racial/Ethnic Disparities in Healthcare Outcomes

Elizabeth Perkins, PhD, University of South Florida, Florida Center for Inclusive Communities, UCEDDWe describe significant healthcare disparities that exist in the intersection of racial/ethnic minorities and people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDDs). This is informed from examination of relevant literature published over the past 30 years. We report on healthcare disparities in general, within several subgroups of IDDs, and how the COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated healthcare disparities for these populations.

Qualitative Investigation: Ensuring Equitable COVID-19 Vaccination for People With Disabilities and Their Caregivers

Jennifer Meunier, MPH, Associate Director for Policy, Guam Center for Excellence in Disabilities Education, UCEDDThe poster will display the common challenges and solutions to achieving equitable COVID-19 vaccination reported by respondents/jurisdictions raised in interviews with the CDC Emergency Response Team. Advocates, educators, policy makers, and others can use this information to improve public health policy and practice and positively affect the lives of people with disabilities and their caregivers, as well as consider how to reduce health inequities in future public health responses.
How and who should screen nutritional risk using the SAMIE (Eating Screening Inventory) in Children with ASD.

Nicole Withrow, PhD, MS, RDN, Associate Professor, JFK Partners/University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, UCEDD/LENDUp to 89% of children with ASD have problematic eating behaviors that can affect healthy growth and development; therefore, early identification is paramount, given that delayed screening and treatment have been associated with nutritional risk. To better understand how and who can screen for nutritional risk, a validated eating screening inventory (SAMIE) will be presented.
A Continuing Medical Education Program for Primary Care Providers about Equitable Healthcare for Their Patients with Intellectual and/or Developmental Disabilities

Tamsen Bassford, MD, Associate Professor, Sonoran UCEDDThis presentation describes the development and testing of a three-part continuing medical education (CME) program for primary care providers (e.g. physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants) about working with patients with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities (IDD). The program covers: 1) health equity for people with IDD; 2) physical and intellectual accessibility; 3) consent and capacity for health care decision-making among people with IDD; and 4) supported decision-making in health care.

Texas Response to Health Equity: Texas Partners for Inclusive Access (TPIA)

Sandy Magana, PhD, MSW, , Texas Center for Disability Studies, UCEDD/LENDTPIA is a new statewide partnership of organizations committed to helping Texans with disabilities have access to the COVID-19 vaccine and other services. The initiative was designed to ensure equitable access to testing, vaccination, safe practices, and educational materials in response to the high rates of COVID-19 and deaths among people with disabilities. An assessment was conducted to learn more about the experiences of Texans with disabilities with COVID-19 vaccines.
Impact of a Mindfulness Intervention on Adolescents with Obesity: A Feasibility Study Protocol

Community-based programs can impact an individual's habits and routines. This proposal will evaluate the feasibility of implementing Mindful Habits, a four-week mindfulness program for adolescents with obesity.

Towards health equity for Latino families of children with IDD: A study examining determinants of health and health behaviors

Weiwen Zeng, MSSc, PhD student, Texas Center for Disability Studies, UCEDD/LENDWe designed a study to evaluate the health and health behaviors of Latino children with IDD and their families comparing with their non-Latino peers, to understand the dynamic relationships between individual, family, socio-economic, and environmental factors. The study was conducted between 07/2020 and 05/2022, while the COVID-19 pandemic happened in the US and around the world.

This presentation will focus on universal and human-centered design to foster inclusivity, accessibility, and community engagement while demonstrating opportunities for all people to engage in activities that promote health and wellness.
