Session Description
All posters for the AUCD Conference will be presented throughout Monday and Tuesday in a series of poster symposia that run at the same time as concurrent sessions. During these 75-minute poster symposia, 10-14 posters on a similar theme will be grouped together in a room. Posters will be displayed on large boards and have a table underneath for accompanying materials. The session will be introduced by a moderator followed by brief introductions by presenters. Attendees will then be free to move around the room and connect with individual presenters for the remainder of the session. Attendees are welcome to move between symposia rooms and view posters on other topics. Conference posters will be available to view on the website and in the mobile app.

Successful Transition to Employment Partnership: New York State Approach to Improving Employment Systems for Adults with Disabilities

Mariela Leon-Thomas, Health Project Coordinator, Strong Center for Developmental Disabilities, UCEDD/LENDThis poster will highlight the research component of the Successful Transition to Employment Partnership (STEP) Project within New York State. STEP is focused on characterizing and improving employment systems for disabled adults, particularly the transition from day habilitation to competitive employment. We utilized qualitative methodology to explore perspectives on this transition from multiple stakeholders (i.e., disabled adults, caregivers, providers). Themes and implications derived from the analysis will be presented.
Inclusive Hiring Within Project ECHO Programs.

Both John and Ivanova had an active role recruiting for the UW CHDD Echo Autism team which recently hired 5 new autistic advocates.

Effects of Parent Mentoring on the Employment Outcomes of Adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities: Pilot Study

We will address the design of the intervention, its impact on parents and their family members with IDD, and key lessons learned for supporting families in this essential area.

Striving for Health Equity Through Leadership and Partnership: The Inclusive Worker Health Leadership Approach

Participants will learn how the IWHLN is informing efforts and policies to ensure more timely, coordinated, and effective services that lead to better outcomes.

Recommendations for Reducing Health Inequities During Air Travel for Wheelchair Users

Julie Pfeiffer, PT, DPT, , Interdisciplinary Human Development Institute, UCEDD/LENDWheelchair users encounter added stresses during air travel due to the inability to remain in their own wheelchair while onboard an aircraft. As a result, the risk of experiencing pressure ulcers, infection, and injury during air travel is amplified for wheelchair users. Facilitators will lead a community conversation to discuss strategies and develop solutions for stakeholders to support wheelchair users in reducing health disparities during air travel.

Investigating the Relationship Between Personality Traits and Job Satisfaction in Direct Support Professionals

The study contributed to the body of research aimed at describing what types of people are attracted to, and thrive in, this challenging field of work.

Community-based supports for children with special health care needs: caregiver perspectives.

Rafaella Stein Elger, MPH, CPH, , University of South Florida, College of Public HealthImproved access to care for children with special health care needs is one of the goals of the community-outreach efforts of the Florida Birth Defects Surveillance Program. To better understand caregivers' perspectives on their needs and current supports in their communities in Florida, caregivers will participate in virtual and in-person group sessions. The findings will reveal strengths and limitations in community resources and provide guidance for future community efforts.

Measuring Community Life Engagement

CLE, defined as access to and participation in the community in non-work activities, is an important complement to competitive integrated employment in supporting meaningful days for people with IDD.

RETAIN Kentucky: A Statewide Return-to-Work and Stay-at-Work Program for People with Disabilities

Each phase will be described in depth, as well as the findings of those intervention phases. Broader implications of early, quality return-to-work interventions are also discussed.

Satisfaction with care coordination and amount and quality of services in adults with disabilities

Laura Banning, MSN CPNP-PC PMHNP-BC, , Waisman Center, UCEDD/LENDLong term care supports for adults with disabilities often requires coordination, which includes both service type and amount. In our regression analysis of 206 adults with disabilities receiving long term care supports in Wisconsin, satisfaction with the amount of services positively predicted satisfaction with coordination of services provided by care agencies. Thus, our study suggests that satisfaction with the amount of services is an important element in effective care coordination.

Aryn Taylor, PhD, Grant Writer/Program Evaluator , JFK Partners/University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, UCEDD/LENDThis session will introduce attendees to the GUIDDANCE project and the multi-year collaboration between Children's Hospital Colorado (CHCO) and JFK Partners/Colorado Office of Employment First (CO) to build a clinical and research partnership to serve youth with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Topics such as partnership development, inclusion of youth with IDD and their families in research, and employment as a social determinant of health will be discussed.
Unaffordable Housing Crisis: A Policy Overview and Case Study

Kennedy Center, UCEDD/LENDThis presentation was developed in response to the housing crisis faced by many low-income and middle-income Americans, including persons with disabilities. Nearly 50% of Americans identify affordable housing as a major problem, a 10% increase from 2018 (pre-COVID). In this presentation, we first provide an overview of existing housing policies and programs. Second, we highlight the specific housing challenges of two low-income, immigrant families who have children with disabilities.
