AUCD - Poster Symposium 1B - Education: Early Intervention/Early Education and Advocacy

Session Description

All posters for the AUCD Conference will be presented throughout Monday and Tuesday in a series of poster symposia that run at the same time as concurrent sessions. During these 75-minute poster symposia, 10-14 posters on a similar theme will be grouped together in a room. Posters will be displayed on large boards and have a table underneath for accompanying materials. The session will be introduced by a moderator followed by brief introductions by presenters. Attendees will then be free to move around the room and connect with individual presenters for the remainder of the session. Attendees are welcome to move between symposia rooms and view posters on other topics. Conference posters will be available to view on the website and in the mobile app.

Montana Voices Amplified: A microphone and audience so people with disabilities and their families are heard.

In September 2020, the Rural Institute and the Montana Family to Family Health Information Center launched a platform for people of all ages and abilities to speak for themselves. Montana Voices Amplified (MVA) publishes, promotes, and distributes articles and videos focused on lived experience. In this presentation, we will discuss the program and share lessons learned.

Providing Access to Intensive Early Intervention Services to Young Children with Autism in Arkansas.

This poster presentation will be an overview of the Arkansas Autism Partnership (AAP), an intensive early intervention program. The AAP is a 1915(c) HCBS waiver program that serves young children in Arkansas with autism. The program serves children in their natural community, including the most rural areas of Arkansas. Teams travel to the children and provide culturally sensitive intervention and family training. Outcome data will be shared.


LINK International & Interdisciplinary Virtual Forum on "Best Practices" in Authentic Assessment for Early Childhood Intervention

Our international and interdisciplinary forum facilitated an ambitious & innovative and virtual (Zoom-based) "social validity process" during the pandemic to gather "real-world" perspectives on both the "process" & "methods" of Authentic Assessment for ECI for all young children, but especially infants, toddlers, & preschoolers with neurodevelopmental delays & disabilities & neurobehavioral disorders and chronic medical conditions.

Equitable Access to Indiana's Part C Early Intervention Services and Supports: Data Trends and Recommendations

Equitable access to early intervention (EI) services optimize development. Research reveals there may not be equitable access for all children. This project examined records of children in Indiana to inform national efforts for linking state systems, improving Child Find, and increasing EI enrollment. Data show trends in demographic characteristics of EI participants and provide initial steps towards ensuring all children have the same opportunity for accessing early intervention services.

Impacts of COVID-19 on Body Mass Index in Young Children with Disabilities

Participants will learn (1) how COVID-19 has impacted the growth and development of young children and their families; (2) how to properly assess the impacts of COVID-19 on child body mass Index (BMI); (3) how to can expand research in this area by addressing the long-term impacts of COVID-19; and (4) strategies for developing an intervention to address obesity prevention among vulnerable preschool children.


Feeding Intervention Trends in West Virginia Birth to Three: A Survey of Speech Language Pathologists and Occupational Therapists

This poster will present information on the clinical practices of Speech Language Pathologists and Occupational Therapists providing feeding intervention through West Virginia Birth to Three. Additionally, data from this state-wide survey will be used to inform policy development. Special attention will be given to identify the barriers and challenges clinicians experience during the provision of feeding and swallowing services to very young children in rural West Virginia.


Providing Virtual Support to Children with Mild Developmental Delays in Response to the Pandemic

Research shows that children receiving early intervention experienced a suspension of services and faced challenges transitioning from in-person to telehealth. The purpose of this study was to examine the impact of two service delivery models on speech-language therapy outcomes in participants enrolled in an early intervention program. The program was able to make adjustments during the pandemic that assisted families in maintaining progress in improving their children's language skills.

Telling Stories Through Advocacy

ND is using different ways to share an individual's advocacy story. Some ways include the written word, video and Photovoice. Photovoice being a way to share your voice through photos. All of the ways ND is using advocacy stories is making an impact on others in the community.

AUCD Network Trainees' and Other Students' Roles in the Act Early Response to COVID-19 Project

The goals of the Act Early Response to COVID-19 project are to develop, implement, and evaluate activities to ensure the early identification of young children with developmental delays or disabilities and promote resilience in children, families, providers, communities, and/or early childhood systems. This interactive session will provide examples of how state and territorial Act Early Response Teams included AUCD Network and other students from higher education programs in their work.
