Session Description

The AUCD Family Support Special Interest Group shares research and best practices in supporting people with IDD to live full and meaningful lives in their communities. We believe well informed families are critical to creating and securing opportunities for their family member with IDD to be connected and contributing to their communities and less dependent on formal systems for all their support. The AUCD FS SIG engages with AUCD membership in moving Family Support and Family Leadership policy, practice and research forward at the national and state level and in advancing family engagement at all levels within the core work and values within the UCEDD and LEND programs.

SIGs are made up of individuals in the AUCD network that have common topical interest. SIGs, which are open to anyone in the network, serve as a mechanism for sharing information, engaging in dialogue, and generating new ideas. SIGs are led by one or more individuals from the network (with AUCD staff support if needed); they typically meet in person at the AUCD Conference and may share information via email, conference call, or webinars throughout the year. Because SIGs are driven by the interests of the AUCD membership, new SIGs may emerge while ones that have run their course may disband.
