Most individuals with IDD want to work in meaningful, competitive, integrated positions; however, few actually do. Employment consultants work to connect job seekers and employers; however, their activities vary, and don't always include evidenced-based practices. Using quantitative and qualitative data from research with individuals with IDD, their families, and employment consultants, we present a comprehensive model of supports that enable people with IDD to access the employment they desire.

This presentation focuses on the important connections between health transition and school-to-work transition efforts. With the increased emphasis on ensuring that high school students with disabilities have opportunities to prepare for the world of work, it is equally important to ensure that students are exposed to basic principles of healthy living and are supported in the process of transition from pediatric to adult health care.

The UNMC/Nebraska Medicine Project SEARCH program achieved a 100% employment for the 2017 class. It's proven to be an effective model for adults with I/DD. Proposed changes in the state could have devastated the program. To be proactive stakeholders diversified funding. A school district added this year will make the program a mixed-site (transition students and adults). Braided funding will support salaries allowing the program to become sustainable once again.

Perceived Benefits of Common Educational and Employment Supports Utilized by Young Adults with Autism

Assisting young adults with ASD have a greater understanding of their unique strengths and challenges, and ways to advocate in the education and work setting, is a vital way to support a successful transition to adulthood. This study utilized a descriptive survey to understand common supports adults (n=48) with an ASD utilize and to what extent these types of supports were of benefit.
UC UCEDD-Community Collaboration on Local Government Advocacy for Greater Employment Opportunities for People with Disabilities

UC UCEDD collaborated with local disability rights organizations and self-advocates to engage and activate citizens to testify before the Education & Entrepreneurship Committee of the Cincinnati City Council about the importance of workforce inclusion for persons with disabilities. Using grassroots advocacy methods, the organizations reached out to members providing them with supports and guidance on telling their story of the importance of employment to the City Council Committee.

This session will highlight the strategies and practices implemented by the PersonLink Support Coordination Organization to help their program participants explore and prepare for competitive employment. Case studies will demonstrate the process, collaborations, challenges and successes of this model. Session attendees will be exposed to resources, assessment tools, and questionnaires used to facilitate the employment discussion with the participant and their family.

Providing Technical Support in Job Skills Development through an ASD Job Club

The RRTC on Advancing Employment for Individuals with IDD has undertaken research to develop strategies to support individuals and families, service providers and policy makers in improving employment outcomes. The presenters will share findings, implications for policy and practice and results of a six-month review of the research with individuals, family members, services providers and policy makers that will inform these specific projects and frame the future research agenda.

In 2012, the state of Iowa became one of the first protege states to participate in ODEP's Employment First State Leadership Mentoring Program (EFSLMP). Since then, Iowa has shown substantial progress in moving people with disabilities out of segregated settings and into competitive integrated employment. This presentation will discuss the role the Iowa UCEDD has played, and how other UCEDDs can get involved with the ODEP initiatives in their state.
