AIR-P Research Day at Autism CARES Meeting 2024: Translating Research to Community Impact

The Autism Intervention Research Network on Physical Health (AIR-P) will be hosting its 7th semi-annual Research Day on July 22, 2024, in conjunction with the 2024 Autism CARES Meeting. This virtual event is an opportunity to highlight research related to the physical health and overall well-being of autistic individuals. The 2024 theme is "Translating Research to Community Impact" and will feature poster presentations from across the nation. This virtual event is open to all.

2024 Disability Policy Seminar Orientation and Policy Education 101 Workshop

This workshop will help prepare trainees for the 2024 Disability Policy Seminar taking place from April 8-10, 2024, in Washington, DC, to learn how to educate policymakers in DC and at home, as well as how to connect their experience and expertise to policy.

2024 LEND Audiology Workshop at EHDI Conference

This workshop will introduce LEND pediatric audiology trainees to the various challenges associated with effectively serving deaf/hard of hearing children (including those with additional disabilities) from clinical practice and systems perspectives. AIR-P Research Day at AUCD 2023 Conference

The Autism Intervention Research Network on Physical Health (AIR-P) will be hosting its sixth plenary Research Day at the AUCD 2023 Conference in November 2023. This event is part of the AUCD Conference and will emphasize research led by autistic researchers and collaborators, highlighting content related to the physical health and overall well-being of autistic individuals. This AIR-P Research Day will include a poster presentation symposium and two concurrent sessions. AIR-P will also be present at the AUCD 2023 conference via two exhibit tables. This in-person event is open to all.

Medicaid Education 101 for Trainees: Learn About Medicaid and Home and Community Based Services

AUCD hosted an educational webinar for trainees to learn about the structure and financing of the Medicaid program and Home and Community-Based Services. The speakers provided an overview of the Medicaid program and its structure and financing. The webinar also provided an overview of what is happening in Congress and the Administration regarding the Medicaid program.

This webinar is to celebrate the end of the academic year and share professional development tips with outgoing and continuing trainees in the Emerging Leaders Community, including advice on staying engaged with the AUCD network. Participants will hear from our Emerging Leader Board Member, Aliana Romero, AuD, CCC-A, and AUCD's Council Trainee Representatives.

AIR-P Presents: Involving Community Partners in Autism Research

This presentation by Dr. Lisa Croen and Dr. Maria Massolo from Kaiser Permanente will: -review the principles of Community Based Participatory Research (CBPR) -discuss its late arrival to the field of autism research highlighting the ongoing contributions of AASPIRE -review US government support of patient centered research through PCORI funding. They will illustrate the benefits of collaborating with community partners by presenting a project in which a team of researchers and a team of autistic community advocates are co-producing autism research.

AIR-P Presents: Tele-therapy for autism during COVID-19: A survey of parents in Southern California

In this webinar, Dr. Kristen Choi will discuss emerging evidence on using telehealth to deliver therapy to children with autism spectrum disorder (e.g., speech therapy, occupational therapy, applied behavior analysis). Using data from a recent survey of parents in Southern California, the mental health impact of the pandemic on parents and their children will be discussed, as well as how COVID-related stress affected perceptions of telehealth.

Self-Advocacy Training Series for LEND Programs

AUCD's Interdisciplinary Technical Assistance Center (ITAC) on Autism and Developmental Disabilities, in partnership with The Center for Leadership in Disability at Georgia State University, is hosting a series of virtual trainings for LEND Programs in October 2021 related to self-advocacy. While the intended audience is LEND leadership and faculty, all are welcome. Trainings will be conducted virtually and recorded and archived for those unable to attend the live sessions.
