Joann Bodurtha, MD, of the Partnership for People with Disabilities, Virginia Commonwealth University received the 2009 Outstanding Achievement Award today at the Association of University Centers on Disabilities (AUCD) Annual Meeting and Conference.

The award is recognizes a UCEDD, LEND, or IDDRC executive, faculty, or staff member who has demonstrated excellence in three major areas of the field—teaching, scholarship, and service to the wider community.

Dr. Bodurtha has directed the Virginia LEND since 1995. Wrote her nominator, "Her list of academic accomplishments (awards, grants, publications) spans the expected milestones of a highly successful academic career-from achievements as a faculty member, researcher, and woman in science, to those of a compassionate caregiver, national leader, and promoter of community health. Yet, what says the most to me are the underlying core values and the sense of commitment that Dr. Bodurtha brings to all she does–the principles from which she has not strayed since she began her career."
