Get your Vaccines and Sleeve Up this Winter!

AUCD’s selected Network centers are providing needed flu and COVID-19 shots to people with disabilities and older adults. Thanks to funding from the Administration for Community Living and leadership by USAging, these seven centers are making getting a vaccine part of everyone’s winter plans to stay healthy and enjoy the season. Disability in Iowa: Working Together!

In early November, the Center for Disabilities and Development (CDD), home to Iowa's UCEDD, LEND program, and IDDRC, teamed up with our sister organization, the Iowa Developmental Disabilities Council, to host "Disability in Iowa: Working Together." Iowa's state legislators were invited to CDD for a learning session to increase their awareness of the work we do on behalf of Iowans with disabilities, and to help them understand more about the experience of living with a disability, including the challenges of access to supports and services.

AIR-P Presents: Health outcomes for sexually-diverse and gender-diverse autistic adults

AIR-P Presents: Health outcomes for sexually-diverse and gender-diverse autistic adults  Copy to Calendar

Tuesday, December 12, 2023
4:00pm ET - 5:00pm ET
Location: Zoom

We know that a substantial number of autistic people are sexually-diverse (e.g., gay, lesbian, bisexual, pansexual, asexual) or gender-diverse (e.g., transgender, gender non-conforming), but what do we know about their mental and physical health? Dr. Graham Holmes will discuss the current state of the literature and present findings from two studies that used innovative methods to learn about health disparities for this population. The first study investigated suicidality disparities among autistic versus non-autistic sexually-diverse and gender-diverse youth using a U.S. national sample recruited via social media. The second study investigated mental and physical health disparities more broadly among autistic sexually-diverse and gender-diverse adults versus cisgender heterosexual adults using electronic health record data. Clinical implications will be discussed.
