Dorothy Garcia is the project director for the Professional Fellows Program on Inclusive Disability Employment (PFP-IDE). PFP-IDE is a professional exchange program funded by the U.S. Department of State, which enables 20 emerging leaders in inclusive employment from Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda to participate in a five-week fellowship in the U.S. The Fellows are placed with AUCD network members, who provide mentorship and collaborate with them to develop an inclusive employment project to be implemented in their home countries.
Dorothy planned and executed the Harkin International Disability Employment Summit, an invitation-only event that convenes global leaders in disability employment, from 2016-2018. She has been a member of the UCEDD Technical Assistance Team since 2017 and is responsible for the AUCD Diversity & Inclusion Toolkit, webinars, topical work groups, and other quality improvement initiatives.
Prior to joining AUCD, she worked at the World Justice Project where she helped launch the World Justice Challenge, an online competition to find and fund the best pilot programs for advancing rule of law efforts around the globe. She worked as an international trade paralegal at Sandler, Travis & Rosenberg, where she focused on antidumping litigation and global trade compliance. Dorothy earned her Master's degree in Public Policy with a concentration in International Development from the University of Maryland. She also holds a BA in English and Political Science from St. Mary's College of Maryland. Dorothy is an immigrant from the Philippines, and lives with her husband and children in Washington, DC.
