Shannon Caldwell

Shannon Caldwell has been the COCA Co-Chair for the AUCD Board of Directors since 2011 and is the Community Advisory Council Liaison for the Human Development Institute at the University of Kentucky. Shannon started at HDC in 1999 as an intern, and has had progressive positions for over 20 years in supporting the community liaison and self-advocate advisory roles of the center.

Shannon was born and raised in Kentucky and graduated from the University of Kentucky in 2000 with a major in Social Work and a minor in Sociology. He serves in a variety of volunteer and professional capacities including the Expanded Horizons Committee Transition state and regional team for Kentucky, the NCI National Core Indicators Project Committee, a member of COCA since 2008, the Kentucky Commission on Deafness and Hard of Hearing Telecommunication Access Program Advisory Board, the Deaf-Blind Project Steering Committee group, a founding member and president of the Kentucky Association of the Deaf-Blind, the first vice-president of the Lexington, KY chapter and a national member of the National Federation of the Blind and a member of Alstrom Syndrome International (ASI).

Shannon and his family are also very active in their community church and faith-based activities in his hometown of London, Kentucky.
