Dr. Hopmann is a Scientific Review Administrator for the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) and Associate Director for Training and Staff Development. She assembled and runs the first Biobehavioral and Behavioral Sciences Subcommittee for NICHD, consisting primarily of developmental psychologists and pediatricians, and administers the NICHD reviews on behavioral aspects of typical and atypical human development and related topics. As a faculty member in the Department of Pediatrics at Brown University's School of Medicine, she founded a research and outreach program in Language and Communication Disabilities, focusing on children with Down syndrome. With pediatric colleagues at Brown, she inaugurated a research program studying the emergence of literacy behaviors in very young children.
