The University of Nebraska Medical Center announces a search
for a new director of the Munroe-Meyer Institute for Genetics and
Rehabilitation. The Institute is one of 67 federally designated University
Centers for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD) and one of 36 MCHB
funded Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities
(LEND) programs. MMI is a large
interdisciplinary program which provides interdisciplinary services and
supports for individuals with disabilities, provides training in fourteen
disciplines for professionals in the field of developmental disabilities and
conducts basic and applied research in a variety of disciplines related to its
mission.
MMI is an independent academic unit of the University of
Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC), a free-standing academic health sciences center
that is a member of the four-campus University
of Nebraska system. The Institute
has a faculty and staff of over 250 individuals and has an annual budget of
over $20,000,000. MMI is supported from
a combination of University, federal, extramural and philanthropic funds and enjoys
support from four foundations including the Hattie B. Munroe Foundation, the
GWR Sunshine Foundation and the C. Louis Meyer Rehabilitation Foundation which
provide excellent infrastructure and other resources for the Institute.
Located in Omaha, the state's
largest city, MMI is one of the largest UCEDD's in the United States
with outstanding staff, facilities and support.
The director of the Institute reports directly to the Chancellor of the Medical Center,
along with the deans of the UNMC Colleges of Dentistry, Graduate Studies, Medicine,
Nursing, Pharmacy, and Public Health; and the director of the UNMC Eppley
Cancer Center.
The director of the Institute will be
expected to provide leadership that will facilitate the growth of the Institute
while maintaining its outstanding quality and reputation. Additional information may be found on MMI's

Qualified candidates should possess an M.D. or a Ph. D. or
equivalent academic degree in an appropriate discipline. He or she is expected
to have professional experience commensurate with the assumption of the
leadership role for the direction of a large dynamic interdisciplinary
institute. Familiarity with UCEDD and
LEND programs is desirable.
