Program Director, Women's & Perinatal Health - Association of Maternal & Child Health Programs (AMCHP), Washington, DC

Position Summary

This position is accountable for the development, implementation and evaluation of program activities related to women's and perinatal health through cooperative agreements and other funding sources. Assists in tracking, analyzing, and reporting on federal and state programs impacting women's and perinatal health. Partners with relevant agencies and other national organizations, coalitions and groups concerned with women's and perinatal health.

Principal Duties

  1. Supervise and actively assist the work of women's health staff to accomplish tasks and projects.
  2. Develop work plan and assure that project deliverables are implemented and consistent with work plans.
  3. Assume leadership for assigned projects in the women's and perinatal health portfolio.
  4. Manage budget for assigned projects.
  5. Analyze and report on national and state programs impacting women's and perinatal health and state MCH/Family health programs.
  6. Design and conduct necessary research based on written surveys, phone interviews, analysis of existing national and state reports and other methodologies; develop reports and/or other tools and resources on programs related to state MCH/family health programs.
  7. Produce issue briefs, fact sheets and other documents on the field of maternal, child and family health.
  8. Participate in the development and implementation of meetings, forums and other skills building opportunities for information sharing and exchange.
  9. Develop grant proposals and other funding applications; manage federal grants relating to women's and perinatal health.
  10. Establish and maintain strategic relationships with key national groups and federal agencies related to women's and perinatal health.
  11. Facilitate communication of pertinent issues to AMCHP members (via newsletter, email, web page, papers).
  12. Develop new ideas and concepts related to the project, and emerging issues.

Job Specifications

Knowledge

Knowledge of maternal & child health issues, public health theory & practices and national and state health programs and policies. Some knowledge of women and perinatal health issues, specifically risk factors leading to poor health status such as human immunodefiency (HIV), tobacco use, substance abuse, domestic violence, and mental health.

Background and Education

Master's degree in public health, maternal and child health, health policy, or other related health or human services field with two years of direct professional experience. A bachelor's degree plus 4 years of directly related experience can be substituted for advanced degree.

Skills

Demonstrated program development, implementation and evaluation skills; supervision experience; strong verbal and writing skills, including reports and public presentations; group process skills; public policy research and analysis skills; computer skills to include working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, email, Internet research and desktop applications.

Other

Ability to travel one to two days per month.
