The Heldrich Center, (www.heldrich.rutgers.edu) a national research organization devoted to strengthening the nation's workforce through independent research, seeks a Director of Workforce Development and Disability Research to guide the Center's growing portfolio of research, evaluation and technical assistance in the disability employment area. The position will work with government agencies, foundations, businesses, educational institutions, and community based organizations to translate research and analysis into improved programs and policies that lead to stronger employment outcomes for individuals with disabilities in the US and international labor markets.
The position will be responsible for developing, managing and growing the multi-million dollar disability and employment portfolio of the Heldrich Center including managing large externally funded research and technical assistance projects. The Director of Workforce Development and Disability Research will report directly to the Executive Director. Primary responsibilities will include: a) providing leadership and strong management support for all disability employment research, evaluation and technical assistance conducted and coordinated by the Heldrich Center; b) supervising staff, students, project consultants and other grantees working in the Center's growing portfolio of disability and employment work, c) contributing significant entrepreneurial leadership and subject matter expertise to the Center in the area of disability employment and contribute to the national dialogue on the topic through participation at national conferences and other events and communicating and collaborating with leading national and state disability and workforce development organizations, policy makers and employers; d) publishing and presenting findings from internal and external funded research and evaluation studies; e) overseeing the production of high quality research reports, briefs, and other written publications produced by the Heldrich Center; f) overseeing the design and management of high quality technical assistance and training provided by the Heldrich Center or collaborating partners; and g) conceptualizing and writing proposals for external grant funding.
Candidates must possess a Masters Degree in public policy, education, social sciences, social work, vocational rehabilitation, public administration, political science, or other areas as well as seven years or more relevant experience and leadership in the employment and disability fields. Considerable demonstrated subject matter expertise in the workforce and disability fields as well as strong supervisory and project management skills are required. The ideal candidate will have an advanced degree in a relevant field and several years of supervisory/management experience in an academic, non-profit or government setting that focused on workforce development and individuals with barriers to employment. The ideal candidate will also be entrepreneurial and strategic, possess outstanding writing, verbal and interpersonal skills, have a demonstrated commitment to quality and customer service, possess extensive knowledge of public policy, programs and efforts that support people with disabilities in their competitive employment efforts, have a record of published research and/or a track record of extensive program management experience in the field of disability employment, as well as possess considerable public speaking and presentation skills.
