      Associate Professor/Professor

         The University of South Florida is searching for a Co-Director of the Florida Center for Inclusive Communities (FCIC), a University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD). 

The Co-Director will be expected to provide dynamic leadership that will facilitate the growth of extramurally funded research and training initiatives, mentor junior faculty, and guide the UCEDD in providing  interdisciplinary pre-service preparation and continuing education, community services,  conducting research, influencing policy and practices, and disseminating information.

This 12-month tenure-earning position is offered at the rank of associate to full professor. The qualified candidate will have a Doctorate in an appropriate discipline related to the support of individuals with developmental disabilities (e.g., psychology, education, special education, communication disorders, etc.). The candidate is expected to have professional expertise commensurate with the assumption of a leadership role for the direction of a large interdisciplinary research and training program including substantial experience with directing externally-funded projects, influencing policy and programs for individuals with developmental disabilities, and working in partnership with state agencies and advocacy organizations. The Co-Director will be expected to provide leadership that will facilitate the growth of extramurally funded research and training initiatives, mentor junior faculty, and guide the UCEDD in providing interdisciplinary pre-service preparation and continuing education, community services, conducting research, influencing policy and practices, and disseminating information. This position will provide the day to day management of the Florida Center for Inclusive Communities and will be involved in developing programs, creating materials for dissemination including scholarly peer-reviewed publications, developing grant applications, developing and presenting outreach training, supervising faculty and project staff, conducting research, teaching at the graduate level, and providing leadership to faculty and staff who are involved in projects affiliated with the UCEDD. The candidate will plan, collaborate and implement programs with higher education institutions, state agencies, and community-based service providers to improve the quality of life for persons with disabilities, their families and service providers

Minimum Qualifications: Doctorate in psychology, special education, child development, or related field.  Experience planning, collaborating, implementing, and evaluating programs in the area of developmental disabilities.  Eligibility for appointment at associate or full professor.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience in program development and leadership of research, technical assistance, or training projects. Knowledge of UCEDD issues and federal disability policies.  Experience in faculty mentorship, staff supervision, and project management, including budgets.  Experience in providing training and technical assistance, working collaboratively with families, consumers and outside agencies, writing grant proposals, writing for publication, and conducting research.

This UCEDD was newly-funded in September, 2005 and is housed in the College of Behavioral and Community Sciences. The FCIC leverages core dollars to bring in over 6.5 million dollars to fund research, training, and technical assistance efforts and the support of 75 faculty and staff.
