The College of Health and Human Development (HHD) at California State University, Northridge (CSUN) is committed to student success. We are proud of our diverse faculty and staff. We have 50 staff members and a faculty of over 350 full- and part-time academic professionals who provide and support education, advising and mentorship opportunities to over 7,600 students enrolled in courses on campus and online.

About the Department:
The Environmental and Occupational Health (EOH) Department is devoted to understanding the relationship between human health and the environment. With well over 200 majors, we are the largest accredited EOH program in the nation. These numbers are essential for addressing the unfolding workforce crisis in environmental and occupational health. In terms of total numbers, we are also the most diverse accredited EOH program in the nation. In a profession that values our ability to communicate with the public, diversity matters. The program emphasizes the study of the chemical, physical and biological factors that affect human health and environmental quality. The curriculum provides the basic knowledge and training required for professional careers in the field of community environmental health and industrial hygiene. The curriculum is also excellent preparation for a career in medicine, dentistry, or optometry.

Qualifications:
Doctoral degree in Environmental and Occupational Health (EOH) or a closely related field is required from an accredited institution. ABD candidates will be considered, but doctorate must be completed by August 22, 2018. Candidate must demonstrate commitment and ability to effectively teach, mentor and work with a diverse student population. Professional experience and/or publications in an Environmental and Occupational Health discipline is desirable. Example areas include administration, air quality, food safety, industrial hygiene, microbiology, hazardous waste management, EOH program management, research design, risk analysis, toxicology, vector control, and water quality. REHS (Registered Environmental Health Specialist) or CIH (Certified Industrial Hygienist) credentials are desirable. Evidence of on-going research activity and potential to secure external funding to support research and publication is desired. Experience in student advisement is desirable. Experience with on-line teaching and instructional technology is highly desirable. Ability to develop and offer on-line courses or to utilize other instructional technologies is highly desirable.
At time of appointment, the successful candidate, if not a U.S. citizen, must have authorization from the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services to work in the United States.
Responsibilities:
Advise and teach a diverse population of undergraduate and/or graduate majors and students, establish an active research program, guide student research projects, and provide service to the university and professional organizations. Depending on individual expertise, teaching areas for example may include: administration, air quality, food safety, graduate research seminars, industrial hygiene, microbiology, hazardous waste and materials management, EOH program management, research design, risk analysis, toxicology, vector control, and water quality. The successful candidate should conduct publishable research and attempt to secure external funding to support research and scholarly activities. The successful candidate may be required to teach on weekdays, evenings, weekends and possibly on-line.
