Metro/Southeast Regional Coordinator - Mass Advocates Standing Strong, Boston, MA

Mass Advocates Standing Strong is a state-wide self-advocacy organization that supports and promotes self-advocacy in older youth and adults with disabilities. Our motto is "Nothing About Us Without Us".

This is an exciting and challenging position for someone who understands and is dedicated to self-advocacy, building leadership, and community organizing. You would be working in both the Boston Metro and Southeast regions of MASS. You will work with self-advocate leaders, supporting existing local self-advocacy groups and helping to organize new groups in the Metro and Southeast regions.

This is a position for someone who is pro-active, flexible and accustomed to working independently. Some weekends and evenings are required. Some work at home is optional.

This is a full-time position 40 hours. Salary $17.00 - $20.00 hourly depends on experience level.

Some of your duties and responsibilities would include:

1. Visit local self-advocacy groups and provide training and resources.

2. Provide facilitation and support for the Regional meetings.

3. Provide training for local and regional group officers, advisors and supporters.

4. Support regional leaders to take action and provide education on issues important to the region.

5. Support the six regional representatives to the State Board to communicate information with the State
    Board.

6. Build relationships with local advocacy organizations, providers and DDS on self-advocacy issues and
    activities.

7. Provide training and initial support for new self-advocacy groups.

8. Publicize M.A.S.S. and self-advocacy activities within the Metro and Southeast regions.

9. Supervise part-time Trainer.

10. Attend monthly staff meetings and provide monthly reports on goals.

11. Support a successful annual state-wide conference.

12. Help plan and attend the annual Retreat.

13. Assist the Board in developing annual goals for the state.

14. Other activities and tasks as requested by the Executive Director.

Qualifications:  Five years experience in self-advocacy, community organizing or human rights or comparable experience

  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience in Microsoft OFFICE WORD, EXCEL, POWERPOINT
  • Vehicle to travel extensively throughout the regions.
  • A willingness to learn and grow with the position and organization.
  • Familiarity with organizing, networking and creating connections with other groups and allies.
