This new position offers an opportunity to join a deeply committed, high-impact, collaborative policy team at The Arc working to advance the civil rights and full inclusion of people with I/DD. In 2017, The Arc plans both to quickly ramp up engagement of our chapters and activists on key issues during what we expect to be a fast-paced, high-demand year, and also to lay the groundwork to continue to build our movement over the long term.

This position will lead The Arc's work to strengthen our current chapter and activist advocacy engagement capacity, including online engagement and story sharing. This position will also work closely with The Arc's policy, communications, online communications, and marketing teams on mid-range and long-range planning initiatives already underway.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement strategies to grow our list of online and offline advocates and motivate action, including a strategy for testing, tracking, and optimizing email and online activist engagement, and share best practices with our chapter network;
  • Manage development of action alerts, web content, social media content, and other materials to support issue advocacy and, where appropriate, draft or optimize content;
  • Design and implement an organizing and advocacy campaign to amplify voices of people with I/DD and their families on key issues through videos and social media, and work closely with The Arc's communications team to support responding to and creating earned media opportunities;
  • Participate actively in The Arc's teams already working on mid-term and long-term planning for online movement building, data system and web site redesign;
  • Manage project teamwork and contractors for video and online content development; and
  • Directly engage chapters and activists in taking action.

Experience and Education:

  • Seven to 10 years of relevant, progressively responsible experience working on fast-paced issue campaigns and/or political campaigns;
  • Successful experience with grasstops and grassroots network mobilization strategy, including planning, development, and implementation;
  • A deep understanding of today's movement building best practices including integration of online and offline grassroots advocacy, online engagement and list-building, and social media best practices;
  • Experience using metrics to optimize engagement and lists; familiarity with Engage/Capwiz, Raiser's Edge, and Net Community a plus;
  • Proven track record of supportive and effective project and team management;
  • Experience with story sharing best practices preferred;
  • Familiarity with federal disability policy issues a plus.
