Position Title:  Access IL Peer Guide

Employment Classification:  Full-time Regular, non-exempt

Work Site:  ILCNSCA and approved field sites

General Statement of Duties:  Coordinate peer advocacy groups (Community Access Advocacy Team (CAAT); Compass Group). Coordinate implementation of All People Accessible Business Project (APAB). Provide individual independent living services to consumers who represent un-served and underserved populations. Promote and preserve Independent Living philosophy and consumer control. Assist Agency with coordination and provision of Community Education and Outreach Services to un-served and underserved populations (Elders, Youth, those living in institutions, urban, rural, GLBT and those whose primary language is not English) Demonstrate professional conduct, and sustain technical proficiency in all work areas.

Supervision Received:  Deputy Director and Executive Director when needed.

General Statement of Duties and Responsibilities as assigned by Supervisor:
1. Assist Deputy Director with All People Accessible Business project:

i)      Recruiting volunteer surveyors;
ii)     recruiting local businesses to be surveyed;
iii)    arranging training of volunteer surveyors;
iv)    negotiating with local businesses for survey schedule;
v)     coordinating volunteer surveyors scheduling of APAB surveys;
vi)     reviewing APAB survey reports;
vii)    coordinating distribution of APAB reports;
viii)   coordinating posting of reports on line;
ix)     tracking of surveyor completion of reports;
x)      coordinating follow up and scheduling technical assistance when requested.

2. Coordinate under supervisor direction agency tracking and scheduling of Community Education and
    Outreach tasks by ILCNSCA.
3. Assist with planning and coordinating Community Education and Outreach activities aimed at un-served
    and underserved populations.
4. Provide Community Education public presentations to social services agencies, legislators, businesses,
    and other groups focused at reaching un-served and underserved populations per number 2 above
    schedule.
5. Provide Outreach services to persons with disabilities from un-served and underserved populations per
    number 2 above schedule.
6. Develop monthly Constant Contact updates on APAB project.
7. Represent agency at meetings as assigned for collaboration and networking.
8. Perform community advocacy as assigned.
9. Provide individual independent living services including: information & referral services; intake and
    assessment of eligibility; independent living skills training services; peer counseling; individual advocacy
    skill development services; and service coordination services to a small caseload.
10. Develop and periodically review an Independent Living Service Plan with each consumer on small
      caseload who has a current CSR, and maintain accurate Consumer Service Records (CSR) following
      all ILCNSCA policies, procedures, and standards.
11. Meet contract deliverables.
12. Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reports as required.
13. Perform other tasks, as requested by supervisor or Management Team.
14. Seek supervision and training as needed.

Qualifications:

1. Knowledge and internalization of independent living principles.
2. Passion for increasing access and accessibility.
3. Person with disability and/or with skills necessary to establish effective peer relationships.
4. Bachelor Degree in Human Services, a related field, or equivalent life experience.
5. Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills in English.
6. Experience working with municipalities, local community and businesses, chambers, and industries on
    the North Shore and Cape Ann.
7. Experience in public speaking and ability to coordinate and conduct public presentations.
8. Internet savvy and highly computer literate in Microsoft Office word processing, database, spreadsheet,
    presentation software, social media and email applications.
9. Knowledge of Federal, State and local agencies serving people with disabilities.
10. Knowledge of service delivery systems, especially those for individuals with disabilities.
11. Excellent follow through skills.
12. Commitment and skills to work as part of ILCNSCA team.
13. Experience maintaining consumer and agency confidentiality.
14. Responsible for own transportation.
15. Bi-lingual English/Spanish is desired to provide services to customers who speak English and/or
      Hispanic languages.

Salary:  $16.00 per hour to start.

Hours:   35 hours per week. Benefits:  As stated in agency Employee Manual.

Review Policy:  Supervisor will complete performance appraisal with employee at the completion of a three-month introductory period when job duties and assignments will be reviewed. Thereafter, performance appraisals will be completed and reviewed annually.

  • May requires someone to sit for long periods of time, talk on the phone and enter information into the computer, from a desk or in the community for at least 70% of their day.
  • Reading and math skills, above average writing and reasoning skills, excellent priority management with immediate follow through as well as compassion for people.
  • Bending, lifting, using measuring equipment, and using electronic data collection/web connection equipment will occur much of the time.
