Position Title:  Community Information Specialist

Employment Classification:  Full-time Regular, non-exempt

Work Site:  ILCNSCA and approved field sites

General Statement of Duties:  Promote and model Independent Living philosophy and consumer control. Be agency lead on provision, coordination of staff assignments and tracking of Community Education and Outreach Services to un-served and underserved populations such as: Elders, Youth, those living in institutions, urban, rural, GLBT and those whose primary language is not English. Coordinate information sharing with public and select groups regarding ILCNSCA activities, events, news, etc. via Constant Contact newsletter, and email list serve notices, and at times mass mailings, and assist with development of Twitter account development. Coordinate ILCNSCA referral resources systems including updating of ILCNSCA web page/Facebook page, staff resources, reception area information, and communications with other providers on their services. Develop collaborative relationships with area service providers. Demonstrate professional conduct, and sustain technical proficiency in all work areas.

General Statement of Duties and Responsibilities as assigned by Supervisor:

  1. Provide information and referrals services per ILCNSCA procedures and data systems, as well as following Commonwealth Balancing Incentives Program and with ADRC protocols.
  2. Track and coordinate and provide Community Education public presentations to social services agencies, legislators, businesses, and other groups focused at reaching un-served and underserved populations as well as Outreach services to persons with disabilities from un-served and underserved populations.
  3. Represent agency at meetings, particularly HOPE, CARE, Beverly Resource Group, as assigned for collaboration and networking.
  4. Represent agency at Health Fairs.
  5. Coordinate all postings to ILCNSCA webpage and Face Book on news and events, maintain list serves and write Constant Contact updates at least monthly on events, and send out all PSAs and list serves on all events and activities.
  6. Assist with development of Twitter communications and its implementation.
  7. Assists callers with registering for events and activities on ILCNSCA RSVP tracking sheets along with contacting registrants for confirmation/reminders as assigned.
  8. Maintain all information (brochures, flyers, jobs, etc.) in Reception and hall way as well as stock common areas such as: Reception seating area; public computer, kitchen area, storage cabinets, and bathroom supplies.
  9. Provides reasonable accommodation assistance for assigned staff by retrieving when directed files, correspondence, forms, and office supplies; reading aloud mail and other correspondence as assigned and directed; assists with data entry at the direction of assigned staff; operates office equipment, such as: computer, fax, copier, telephone, etc. as directed by assigned staff or Management Team.
  10. Develop and maintain Agency information and systems to insure that all Referral Resources are organized electronically and accessibly as well as in brochure form for Reception area for use by Agency staff, consumers and community at large.
  11. Update Agency's referral resources tools, including Yellow pages, Guide to Finding Housing, staff resources on Common/web, etc., at times working with other staff as part of a team.
  12. Insure staff awareness of Information and Referral Resources through updating of IL Resource links on web and discussion at staff meetings as well as via internal emails.
  13. Share ILCNSCA knowledge of local resources, events, activities with MADIL as well as ADRCGNS, Inc. and MRC and insure that all staff of Agency use MADIL for information and referral resources.
  14. Assist with mass mailings and office paper management.
  15. Represent agency at Health Fairs.
  16. Assist at times with CSR and WILD data reviews.
  17. Meet contract deliverables.
  18. Insure all data entered in WILD and other required data systems daily.
  19. Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reports as required.
  20. Perform other tasks, as requested by supervisor or Management Team.
  21. Seek supervision and training as needed.


Qualifications:

  1. Knowledge and personal modeling of independent living principles.
  2. Passion for increasing access and accessibility.
  3. Person with disability and/or with skills necessary to establish effective peer relationships.
  4. Bachelor Degree in Human Services, a related field, or equivalent life experience.
  5. Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills in English.
  6. Internet savvy and highly computer literate in Microsoft Office word processing, database, spreadsheet, presentation software, social media and email applications as well as experienced in Constant Contact, web page updates, Face Book, and Twitter.
  7. Experience working with municipalities, local community and businesses, chambers, and industries on the North Shore and Cape Ann.
  8. Excellent team player skills as well as able to multi-task.
  9. Experience in public speaking and ability to coordinate and conduct public presentations.
  10. Knowledge of Federal, State and local agencies serving people with disabilities.
  11. Knowledge of service delivery systems, especially those for individuals with disabilities.
  12. Excellent follow through skills.
  13. Commitment and skills to work as part of ILCNSCA team.
  14. Experience maintaining consumer and agency confidentiality.
  15. Responsible for own transportation.
  16. Bi-lingual English/Spanish is desired to provide services to customers who speak English and/or Hispanic languages.

Salary:  $16.00 per hour to start.

Hours:   35 hours per week. Benefits:  As stated in agency Employee Manual.

Review Policy:  Supervisor will complete performance appraisal with employee at the completion of a three-month introductory period when job duties and assignments will be reviewed. Thereafter, performance appraisals will be completed and reviewed annually.

  • May requires someone to sit for long periods of time, talk on the phone and enter information into the computer, from a desk or in the community for at least 70% of their day.
  • Reading and math skills, above average writing and reasoning skills, excellent priority management with immediate follow through as well as compassion for people.
  • Bending, lifting, using measuring equipment, and using electronic data collection/web connection equipment will occur much of the time.
