Developmental Psychologist (Part-Time) - Anchor Center for Blind Children, Denver, CO

Purpose of Position

The Developmental Psychology Consultant works as a member of the transdisciplinary team to meet the goals of all children served by Anchor Center. This person also provides counseling and resources to support the children's and families' needs for social-emotional health of the child.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide evaluations in a transdisciplinary team setting, evaluating cognitive and social/emotional areas of development
  • With the Family Support Specialist and Parent Counselor, serve as an organizer and group leader of parent meetings and parent education
  • Provide consultation to individual families as opportunity and budget allow when families request help with behavior challenges, sleep issues, behavioral concerns surrounding feeding or other individual child's needs
  • Participate in program development

Other Duties and responsibilities

  • Provide consultation to the preschool staff twice each year
  • Establish behavioral intervention plans for preschool children, as needed
  • Attend scheduled staff and team meetings
  • Respect the confidentiality of Anchor Center families and staff
  • Attend fund raising events as desired and able
  • Meet regularly with the leadership to discuss concerns, performance and enhance communication

Education & Experience

  • Masters or PhD Degree in Developmental Psychology emphasizing early childhood development
  • Five or more years' experience with children birth through five years with special needs and their families
  • Two years ‘experience with children with visual impairments

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated skill in administering developmental and other assessments as requested
  • Have passion and commitment to the families, children and mission of Anchor Center for Blind Children and work as a team player on its behalf
  • Excellent communication skills and writing skills
  • Understand family friendly processes
  • Able to advocate for families both within Anchor Center for Blind Children and the community
  • Respect for differences in parenting styles and for ethnic and cultural differences
  • Strong knowledge of child development
  • Computer skills: familiar with data bases and ability to utilize Internet resources
  • Organized, flexible, patient, ability to set appropriate boundaries
  • Knowledge of transdisciplinary team approach working with child with multiple challenges

Working Environment

  • Educational/classroom environment including children with limited or no vision and frequent parent/family visits.

Physical Activities

  • Able to participate in floor time and maneuver equipment/materials (with assistance if necessary for safety purposes) for using in programming.
