Haiti Grants Consultant - Disability Rights Fund, Inc., Haiti

The Grants Consultant is an exciting new position, which will help support the grantmaking of the Disability Rights Fund and the Disability Rights Advocacy Fund in Haiti. Position location flexible; Haiti base preferred.

About the Disability Rights Fund
The Disability Rights Fund is a grantmaking collaboration between donors and global disability rights activists aimed at building disability community capacity to achieve the rights of all persons with disabilities and reduce poverty. The Fund - which is based on a participatory grantmaking model - makes modest grants (USD $5000-100,000) to Disabled Persons' Organizations in the developing world to advance the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as liaison between DRF and Haitian prospective grantees to help translate emails, answer questions, complete application paperwork, and build relationships, including through organizing and participating in outreach meetings.
  • Liaise with DRF Program Director and Haitian grantees to ensure that projects are progressing smoothly and provide needed support and oversight to all grantees.
  • Review grant proposals and conduct financial and critical analysis of proposals and applicant organizations from Haiti.
  • Prepare concise written analyses of grant proposals and funding recommendations for the grantmaking and Board committees comprised of advisors and donors.
  • Work closely with grants management staff on grants administration for all grantees in Haiti.
  • Review and analyze grantee reports and communications, for M&E purposes, to identify technical assistance needs, and for PR purposes.
  • With Program Director and Technical Assistance Coordinator, identify organizational, strategic, and movement-building support needed by grantees and find ways to provide or recommend support, helpful resources and contacts with other experts, as appropriate.
  • Report on grantee achievements quarterly as part of M&E.
  • Organize and implement Grantee Convenings and site visits.
  • Ensure that Haiti Country Strategy is implemented, assessed and revised as needed.
  • Support communications by reporting on and documenting grantee achievements and disability rights news in Haiti.

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelors degree, or equivalent with minimum 2 years of relevant experience; advanced degree desired.
  • Preference will be given to candidates from the nonprofit sector, ideally with experience at foundations

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of Haiti and human rights history/issues
  • Knowledge of Haitian civil society and non-profit/NGO sector, including (preferred) the Haitian
    disability community
  • Knowledge of international human rights system, including (preferred) the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities
  • Demonstrated professional written and verbal skills in Creole, French and English
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with diverse populations
  • Grantmaking or grantseeking experience preferred
  • Strong administrative and organizational skills; the ability to manage time efficiently
  • Computer proficiency (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to travel independently

Compensation
This position will be 20-40 hours per week, depending on location of the consultant; the rate will be commensurate with hours, applicant salary history and experience.
