Psychology Postdoctoral Fellowship - Neurodevelopmental and Behavioral Pediatrics, Children's Hospital Colorado, Child Development Unit (CDU)

Posted: Thursday, April 30, 2015

Position:
We are pleased to offer a one-year Psychology Postdoctoral Fellowship in pediatric neurodevelopmental disabilities, with an emphasis on Autism Spectrum Disorder, Intellectual Disability, Genetic syndromes, and related comorbidities. Supervision is provided by experienced, senior licensed psychology faculty. Upon completion of training, the Fellow will have developed advanced competencies in the assessment and management of children with a broad range of developmental and behavioral disorders.

Setting:  The Child Development Unit (CDU) at Children's Hospital Colorado is the clinical service arm of the Section of Neurodevelopmental and Behavioral Pediatrics at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. The CDU is a dynamic clinical setting serving Denver and the Rocky Mountain region with a collaborative team of psychologists, developmental pediatricians, social workers, nurses, and other allied health professionals. State of the art facilities for clinical care are provided at Children's Hospital Colorado on the Anschutz medical campus.

Activities at the CDU are a collaborative effort between psychology and medicine. Complex diagnostic questions involve a wide range of developmental and behavioral disorders, including autism spectrum disorders and intellectual disability, as well as the unique developmental, psychological, and behavioral outcomes of genetic and neurological disorders. Intervention services include cognitive-behavioral therapy, groups to address specific behavioral or diagnostic concerns, family support/educational groups, and behavioral consultation or specialty intervention services related to concerns of sleep, toileting, general behavioral principles, and the Early Start Denver Model (ESDM). Evaluation teams and intervention clinics serve all ages of children and their families, ranging from infancy to young adulthood.

Primary Activities:  The training program is designed to match the individual fellow's training goals with a balance of 60-70% clinical activities and 10-20% research, quality improvement (QI) or program development. Fellows also have the option of participation in the Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities (LEND) training activities.

Clinical activities include both evaluation and intervention. Fellows actively participate in evaluation teams serving a pediatric population, as well as specialty clinics (Fragile X Clinic, eXtraordinarY Kids Clinic for patients with sex chromosome aneuploidies, and 22q Clinic). Fellows will achieve or polish their reliability with a variety of measures, including the ADOS-2. Fellows also participate in intervention consistent with their interests. Fellows with an interest in the Early Start Denver Model (ESDM) will participate in advanced trainings and may choose to work toward Certification. Those with other intervention interests will develop an individualized program leading to independence in the models chosen.
