The National Association of State Directors of Developmental Disabilities Services (NASDDDS) is seeking a strategic, collaborative and visionary Executive Director, with broad experience, leadership qualities and a deep understanding of the values and principles that guide the provision of services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families.

Headquartered in Alexandria, VA, NASDDDS is governed by an eight-member board of directors, and has an annual operating budget of $4.5M and a staff of 10.

NASDDDS supports state agencies by providing them with up-to-date information on federal policy and funding opportunities, on innovative practices in the states and on developments in research and service design in the field of developmental disabilities. Technical assistance is delivered through impromptu email or phone inquiries and also through on-site extended state based projects requiring travel about 25% of the Executive Director's time.

NASDDDS also engages in projects that are multi-state endeavors to improve services and supports through learning collaboratives. States must often redesign policies, develop new practices, and implement system-wide change initiatives. Their four main collaborative projects include National Core: Indicators, State Employment Leadership Network, Community of Practice: Supporting Families Throughout the Lifespan, and Evidence-Based Policy Initiative.   • Respect, credibility and clout throughout the developmental disabilities community (service and policy)
  • Strong history of professional relationship building
  • Ability to provide visionary leadership and make critical decisions
  • Experience in supporting and leading a high-performing staff
  • Capacity to connect with, hear, validate and understand state director members
  • An understanding of the processes within government at the federal, state and local/county levels
  • Experience in tracking federal budget and other federal level issues
  • Excellent communications skills across a wide range of audiences
  • Strong business acumen, ability to build infrastructure systems to support the growth of an organization
  • Capacity to add value to conference planning including identifying themes, speakers and panelists
  • Experience as a state director a plus
  • Professional service or personal experience with individuals with developmental disabilities a plus
  • Bachelor's Degree required; Master's degree preferred.

Salary will be competitive and commensurate with experience.
