The Department: The CSUN Art Department has over 900 students majoring in Art, 24 full time faculty, 60 part-time faculty. Offers BA and MA degrees in visual arts, art education and art history, as well as, the MFA degree. Qualifications: MFA in Graphic Design or Visual Communication with emphasis of work in Interaction Design, User Interface Design (UI), User Experience Design (UX), and Digital Media is preferred. MA with teaching experience (minimum of 2 years at college/university level) and industry experience also considered. Professional background in graphic design. Must show evidence of 1) successful ongoing professional activity and promise in area of concentration, and 2) extensive knowledge, expertise, and experience teaching graphic design and computer-related interactive digital media classes (Web Design/UI/UX). Multi-platform fluency, exceptional hardware and software knowledge a must. Knowledge of Front-End development languages (XHTML, CSS, Javascript) and Back-End development processes recommended. The Graphic Design Program at CSUN emphasizes problem solving with a foundation in concept development; typography; analytical, organizational, and communication skills; and the integration of technology and new media. Dependability, commitment to higher education, and the ability to work effectively within a culturally diverse campus community are required.
Responsibilities: The candidate will teach courses in foundation, graphic design, and interaction/UI/UX design and have the opportunity to contribute to the creation of new curriculum. The candidate also plays a role in the development and supervision of student-based activities (organizations, centers, and recruitment). In addition to teaching at all undergraduate levels of the program, the candidate is required to continue research and design activity, as well as student advisement and committee service to the Department, College, and University.
