The mission of the Autism & Neurodevelopmental Disorders (AND) Initiative is to enhance the lives of people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and other neurodevelopmental disorders (ND) through promoting a successful transition into adulthood. These efforts will be met utilizing an interdisciplinary approach for the translation of research to enhance services and treatment, and to support population-based approaches that will inform policy and affect needed changes in the health and education sectors.

The George Washington University (GW) is seeking an exceptional research scholar for the position of AND Director and Professor endowed by The Carbonell Family Professorship in Autism and Neurodevelopmental Disorders (AND). The Director will play a principal role in defining specific goals in the areas of research, treatment, and policy, and will help develop partnerships, implement strategies, and oversee organizational structures ensuring the achievement of these goals. The successful candidate may receive a secondary appointment in an affiliated academic department based on credentials and approval.

The Director will work collaboratively with the AND Initiative's affiliated GW faculty from: the School of Law, Milken Institute School of Public Health, Graduate School of Education and Human Development, School of Medicine and Health Sciences and the Columbian College of Arts and Sciences as well as with several related GW units such as the Mind-Brain Institute, Center for Applied Developmental Science and Neuroeducation, and the Department of Health Policy. The successful candidate is expected to have a clear and compelling vision for improving outcomes for adolescents with ASD and other ND as they transition into adulthood, using the lens of research, treatment and policy. The candidate is expected to have a high-impact and recognized research program and/or notable experience in related fields of study, a well-established history of external funding and the demonstrated ability to proactively identify and engage private and public funding sources necessary to maintain a portfolio of grants, contracts, and other research funding for the AND Initiative. S/he will provide leadership in collaborating with different stakeholder groups, planning and assessing programs, developing plans to resolve operational problems and issues, and managing financial and human resources. This individual will also serve as a spokesperson for the Initiative, communicating its research, treatment and policy efforts, as well as its position on emerging issues and funding needs within the ASD/ND community. The Director will advise the Vice President for Research and University Senior Leadership on the implementation and status of identified plans and goals for the Initiative and recommend the shifting of priorities as necessary.

Basic Qualifications:Applicants must possess an advanced terminal degree (e.g., PhD, JD, MD) as well as experience in ASD and other ND as evidenced by experience in a recognized, high-impact research program with a significant history of external funding. Also required are senior-level research, teaching and/or service experience, as demonstrated by high levels of leadership skills (including budget oversight, strategic planning and fundraising).
