AUCD, a leading national disability organization, is currently accepting applications for a part-time Diversity and Inclusion Fellow (50% FTE) who will lead efforts to diversify a national organization with affiliates in every State and territory. AUCD is a highly regarded national nonprofit organization that promotes and supports a national network of over 100 interdisciplinary and research centers on disabilities. AUCD has a direct impact at the local, state and national levels to advance policy and practice through research, education, leadership, and services for and with individuals with disabilities and their families and communities, in support of independence, productivity, and a satisfying quality of life.

Background:

The Association of University Centers on Disabilities (AUCD) is undertaking a unique effort to address the growing diversity of people with disabilities. With diverse populations expected to grow in the coming years, addressing and eliminating disparities in education, service, training, information access, and leadership is a top priority for the disability community. AUCD is meeting this challenge by developing a diversity and inclusion blueprint with guidance, resources, and action plans for our office, our network members, and our primary federal funders, so each can better serve diverse populations.

Purpose:

The purpose of this Fellowship is to provide significant experience in coordinating a national effort to develop a blueprint addressing this concern within AUCD's national network. This one-year initiative is funded by the Administration on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (AIDD) and will support AUCD to enhance diversity and cultural competence of faculty, staff and students; cultivate partnerships; respond to increasingly diverse communities across the country; and develop strategies for continuing efforts. As a result of available federal funding, this position is available immediately and is funded through September 29, 2015.

Principal Duties:

  • Develop work plan and assure that project deliverables are implemented and evaluated consistent with plan
  • Cultivate partnerships with key organizations and pipeline training programs representing diverse and cross-disability populations
  • Identify and coordinate consultation with stakeholders
  • Manage logistics and facilitate meetings, workgroups, and other information sharing activities
  • Facilitate communication with stakeholders via newsletter, email, web page, and other means
  • Develop and support implementation of strategies to incentivize, recruit, support, and maintain increasingly diverse student, faculty, and staff within network centers
  • Produce blueprint for national initiative
  • Represent the AUCD network on advisory groups and at meetings and conferences locally and nationally
  •  Develop new ideas and concepts related to this project and related emerging issues
  • Carry out other activities that further the mission and goals of AUCD

Required Qualifications:

  • Completion of a bachelor's degree (masters preferred) in a social science, administration, policy, or related field
  • 2-4 years of progressively responsible experience in human services project management and/or community organizing
  • A professional and resourceful style; the ability to work independently and as a team player, to take initiative, and to manage multiple tasks
  • Passion for and commitment to AUCD's mission are essential

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of issues, initiatives, strategies and practices relating to increasing diversity among university students and personnel
  • Demonstration of cultural competence in working with individuals from diverse backgrounds, and promoting diversity, inclusion, and cultural competence within systems
  • Demonstrated skills in delivering evidence-based, culturally competent training and technical assistance
  • Demonstrated program development, implementation, and evaluation skills
  • Demonstrated verbal and writing skills, including reports and public presentations
  • Demonstrated group process and collaboration skills
  • Demonstrated skill in facilitating collaborations
  • Proficiency in the use of information technology, including internet-based communication tools, word processing, and spreadsheet or database software
  • Demonstrated organizational, analytical, and problem solving skills
  • Ability to travel 2-3 times per year
