Director, MassMutual Center for Special Needs Planning & Assistant Professor of Special Needs - The American College of Financial Services, Bryn Mawr, PA

The American College, a nonprofit, accredited financial services college in Bryn Mawr, PA is seeking a candidate to head the Mass Mutual Center for special needs planning. The incumbent will function as the Center's director and chief ambassador in leveraging research and education to create broad awareness of financial planning for people with a disability or other special need and their parents/caregivers.

To accomplish this, the director will generate and present research findings to a wide range of stakeholders that include industry leaders, government officials, disability support organizations, non-profits and members of the national media. Serving as the Center's primary agent, the director's main objective is to develop a compelling brand that positions the Center as the leading authority for research, information, and educational resources in this critical area of planning. Additionally, the director maintains the Center's economic sustainability through the identification of new sources of revenue.

Other duties included in the position entail teaching and lecturing, maintaining the accuracy and currency of the College's ChSNCTM designation and developing new course content, where appropriate, across the College's curriculum.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Generate and/or oversee the development of primary research that pertains to special needs planning
  • Publish and/or present research findings and speak at events/meetings that target either the industry/trade, government or academic audience
  • Maintain active, current course curriculum and delivery
  • Create new content, where appropriate, for ChSNCTM, other College courses/programs and continuing education opportunities
  • Develop a compelling brand that positions the Center as the leading authority for research, information and educational resources
  • Develop and deliver special programs in the area of special needs planning for financial services companies
  • Travel occasionally for speaking engagements and marketing support
  • Meet regularly with the Center's Advisory Board regarding emerging topics in special needs planning
  • Maintain ongoing communication with MassMutual regarding the activities of the Director and the Center

Required Skills and Educational Background:

  • A master's degree from a regionally accredited school or J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school is a reqirement for a faculty appointment. Outstanding candidates without the minimum education requirement will be considered for appointment to the position of Director, but cannot be considered for appointment to the faculty.
  • Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree is a PLUS, as are earned possession of the CLU®, ChFC®, and similar designations
  • Considerable experience in the financial services industry
  • Ability to speak to a variety of audiences with ease and effectiveness
  • A business background that includes experience with strategy development and implementation
  • Sound analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
