Posted: Tuesday, July 1, 2014

An exceptional opportunity exists for a successful executive with vision, passion, and energy who wants to lead an extremely vibrant and highly respected national nonprofit trade association located in the Washington D.C. area.

ANCOR represents more than 800 organizations providing services and supports for people with disabilities, serving over 400,000 individuals on an annual basis. This Association plays an essential leadership role in helping shape public policy by representing the needs and interests of private providers before Congress and federal agencies. ANCOR strives to continually advocate for the crucial role private providers play in enhancing and supporting the lives of people with disabilities and their families. Our new CEO will lead a dedicated and talented staff, a strong and highly engaged Board of Directors, and diverse groups of volunteers and advocates. Through their collective creativity and talent our new CEO will take ANCOR to the next level of success.

We are looking for a "transformational leader" who can inspire others, who can build effective partnerships and alliances, who can see our rapidly changing health care environment as an opportunity to make a significant difference in the lives of individuals with disabilities, and someone who has a vision of what is possible to ensure that all children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities have the opportunity to enjoy full citizenship and community participation.

Our ideal candidate will possess:

  • An excellent track record in healthcare public policy settings; particularly with governmental entities; experience in a trade association a real plus
  • A track record of demonstrated leadership, communications, and interpersonal skills and the ability to inspire and empower members to fulfill their mission
  • Experience with diverse constituencies and stakeholders focused on a common goal and mission; successful at engaging volunteers to become engaged in fulfilling an organization's goals
  • Demonstrated track record of "partnering" with internal and external constituents and other associations and advocacy groups; possessing a collaborative philosophy and track record
  • Experience in working with not-for-profit Boards and complex healthcare systems; a strong track record of being a consensus builder
  • Passion for serving clients in both public and private sector settings
  • Experience as an "ambassador" and senior statesperson to external agencies; having executive "stature", excelling at being the face of an organization
  • Successful track record as being a "change agent"; leading organizations and systems through an ever- changing environment
  • A track record of developing innovative strategies to diversify funding streams; success at developing innovative and entrepreneurial approaches to building an organization
  • A sound understanding of health care reform in order to assist member organizations during this critical period of transformation; while also having a solid understanding of the nuances and challenges associated with succeeding in a Medicaid and managed care environment
  • A sound business and financial grounding; great appreciation for the importance of data and outcome models and commitment to the provision of "best practices"
  • A track record of leading, inspiring, and managing a talented staff in the service of ANCOR's membership; being self-directed, organized, and team oriented
