The Mental Health Association of Frederick County (MHA) seeks a dynamic, entrepreneurial mental health or human services professional to serve as its next CEO. This position offers the opportunity to build on the existing strengths and strategic direction for this highly respected nonprofit organization that provides child and family-centered prevention programs, treatment, public education, advocacy, and innovative mental health programs in Frederick and four surrounding counties.

The Organization
The Mental Health Association of Frederick County has served the community as a private, non-profit organization since 1965. MHA's mission is to build a strong foundation of emotional wellness through education, empowerment, advocacy and treatment for children, adults and families through a wide array of services. MHA serves a vital role in Frederick County through community outreach, professional education, advocacy and direct service programs. MHA is governed by a 17 member board of directors. The organization's current budget is approximately $2.3M. The staff is comprised of approximately 30 full- and 30 part-time staff and 100 volunteers. For more information visit:  www.fcmha.org.

The Position
Reporting to the MHA board of directors, the CEO provides direction and leadership for the organization's mission and strategic direction, represents and speaks for the organization and its work, and oversees the day to day operations. The CEO partners with local mental health and social service providers to create mental health awareness and innovative collaborative programs, both public and private, while participating as an active leader on mental health issues within Frederick County. MHA is poised for growth on several fronts after having successfully completed a capital campaign and the purchase and complete renovation of an 11,000 sq. ft. building.

Experience and Attributes
Ideal candidates for this position will share our commitment to MHA's mission and will bring a variety of experiences and attributes to MHA, including: ability to provide visionary and strategic leadership; proven networking ability and exceptional interpersonal skills; working knowledge of, or experience in, the field of mental health; well-honed leadership skills and style, including integrity, flexibility, and a sense of humor; well-developed written and oral communications skills and style; ten years' professional experience of progressive leadership and management responsibility, preferably in a nonprofit human services organization; a successful track record in fund raising and developing relationships with funders, and the ability to identify new revenue streams; experience with fiscal management, budgeting, and operations, including responsibility for developing and managing at least a $1M budget; past success supporting a board of directors in its governance role; an understanding of the Frederick County community a plus, or track record of establishing a presence and relationships in an unfamiliar community; and an advanced degree.
