About The Arc:
The Arc is the world's largest nonprofit, community-based organization advocating for and serving people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD), including Down syndrome, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders, cerebral palsy and other diagnoses. The Arc has a network of about 700 chapters across the country promoting and protecting the human rights of people with I/DD and actively supporting their full inclusion and participation in the community throughout their lifetimes.  In addition to individual advocacy and public policy efforts at the local, state and national level, The Arc is the largest provider of services and supports for people with I/DD and their families.

Position Summary:
The Communications Intern will report to the Communications Manager. Responsibilities include supporting the Communications Manager with duties such as general research, drafting press releases, drafting articles for The Arc's E-Newsletters, drafting action alerts on relevant public policy issues, drafting content for The Arc's blog, compiling and editing the weekly policy e-newsletter, and other administrative tasks as needed.   Additionally, this position will also assist the Public Policy Office with research and other tasks.  This position will receive a transportation stipend.

This intern will be mentored by the Communications Manager with projects/duties such as drafting press releases, drafting articles for The Arc's E-Newsletters and etc.

Desired Qualifications:

1.    Undergraduate or graduate student/recent graduate
2.    Excellent oral and interpersonal skills and superior writing skills
3.    Proficiency in Microsoft Word
4.    Must be able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced work environment
       and meet deadlines
5.    Individual must be detailed and very results oriented
6.    Experience with marketing/advocacy databases like Engage or Vocus a plus
