Education:  An advanced degree (Master's Degree or Ph.D.) in Speech Language Pathology (SLP) is required.  Expertise and recent experience in the area of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) and with children and adults having developmental and acquired disabilities are highly preferred.

License/Certification:  Must have current ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) in SLP and must be licensed or eligible for licensure in SLP in the state of Wisconsin.

Appointment Percentage:  50% - 100%

Full Time Salary Rate:  minimum $45,442 (Annual); depending on qualifications

Qualifications:  A minimum of 3 years' experience as a speech-language pathologist is preferred.

  • Expertise and experience working with clients of varying ages (children and adults) with diverse, severe disabilities including those with multiple disabilities, acquired disabilities, neurodegenerative diseases, autism, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, and/or cognitive delays and disabilities.
  • Expertise and experience with AAC, including speech generating devices (SGD) for the abovementioned individuals.
  •  Expertise and experience working on interdisciplinary teams serving the above-mentioned individuals, using/implementing/completing: an electronic medical record; required documentation for prior authorization for services and SGD; and SGD and related off-the-shelf, tablet-based applications.

Job Summary:

The Speech Language Pathologist is a staff member of the University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities, (UCEDD) Clinical Services unit at the Waisman Center. As part of the Clinical Services unit, the Speech Language Pathologist will provide diagnostic and treatment services in the Communication Aids & Systems Clinic (CASC), at bedside for referred inpatients of UWHC (University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics) and AFCH (American Family Children's Hospital), and participate, consult and/or provide cross coverage in multidisciplinary clinics at the Waisman Center.

Responsibilities include:  Provide direct clinical services (CASC)/Communication Development Program (CDP) including AAC focused services as noted above; complete documentation requirements of the UWHC and AFCH using Healthlink (electronic medical record system); complete required documentation for individual clients and program documentation as required by program funder; and independently manage caseload and related activities.
