An Interdisciplinary Position Housed in the Institute for Leadership and Entrepreneurship
An Inclusive Postsecondary Academy (IPA) for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) is being initiated at Georgia Institute of Technology with the intended initial cohort entering Fall, 2015. There are about 200 such programs at various universities in US and Canada (see www.thinkcollege.net). In addition to the academic component, postsecondary programs have similar focus areas including self-determination, social skills development, employment, college course access and independent living. The uniqueness of the program at Georgia Tech is to include a technology-oriented component helpful to the students and of interest to the faculty. When in full enrollment, the goal of the IPA program is to have 48 students, 6 faculty/lecturers, 2 career/ transition coordinators, an administrative professional and student mentors.
Director's position requires a highly motivated individual with the skills and interests to work with the Governing Faculty Committee (GFC) to develop, implement, manage, and scale various aspects of the program. The Director is expected to (1) organize various elements of the IPA in cooperation with the GFC, (2) prepare proposals for funding, (3) interact with other Georgia Tech faculty, (4) build up and manage the admissions of students for fall 2015. As students are enrolled, the Director is expected to (5) advise a cohort of students based on their person-centered plans, (6) attract, orient and manage other staff, and (7) teach Academy Fundamental classes in the IPA.
Requirements: A successful applicant for this full-time non-tenure track faculty appointment must have experience in inclusive programs for students with I/DD, excellent communication and managerial skills, demonstrated ability to grow a quality program, and commitment to the education and development of students with I/DD. While a PhD or equivalent degree in related fields is preferred, applicants with a Master's degree and demonstrated relevant work experience and abilities will also be considered.
