Director of Accessibility and ADA Education - The University of Missouri at Columbia

The University of Missouri at Columbia, a global leader in diversity and inclusion, seeks a Director of Accessibility and ADA Education to join the Chancellor's Diversity Initiative. We seek an effective communicator with expertise in accessibility, accommodation, and universal design who can direct long term strategy and success. Serving as a campus leader and policy maker, this individual will collaborate with other offices to ensure a climate free of physical, programmatic, communicative, informational, and attitudinal barriers for persons with disabilities. Impacts this individual will make on groups providing student services, adaptive computing, facilities management, and public services will work to ensure that the University is a thought-leader in accessibility and accommodation as well as in compliance with local and federal law.

Key responsibilities may include:

  • Provide advice and interpretation for the appropriate application of accessibility principles, universal design, and ADA requirements in all campus programs, services, facilities, policies and procedures
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of university programs and services related to accessibility and ADA, working with campus leaders to change and improve them as needed
  • Disseminate information and provide professional development education to further understanding and accessibility for persons with disabilities
  • Maintain a central record of accessibility issues and requests for accommodations. Hold primary responsibility for the approval of accommodations for employees
  • Assist members of the university community to address complaints through formal and informal grievance procedures. Resolve public access complaints brought by visitors, vendors, or others outside the community
  • Assist with the recruitment of faculty and staff as needed
  • Participate in/contribute to activities (meetings, events, etc.) of Chancellor's Diversity Initiative. Assist with MU Equity Office services and representation as needed

Minimum qualifications include: A post-baccalaureate degree in counseling, personnel management, law, or other related area, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; 1-3 years of related work experience; working knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973; and a demonstrated commitment to, and ability to successfully advocate for, diversity and values of diversity. Significant experience in a higher education setting highly desired.
