The Institute on Disabilities at Temple University, Pennsylvania's University Center of Excellence in Developmental Disabilities provides interdisciplinary training, technical assistance, research, and scholarship to enhance the lives of people with developmental and other lifelong disabilities in their communities. The Institute on Disabilities is actively recruiting for 2 positions:

Assistant Director of Research

The Assistant Director of Research will be responsible for developing and implementing a research and evaluation plan for the Institute on Disabilities. Responsibilities include the following: conducting annual evaluations of the Institute's accomplishments and impacts; establishing an annual research agenda; in collaboration with senior Institute staff, developing research initiatives within the Institute's programs; developing new research initiatives; conducting quantitative and qualitative research and evaluation activities; ensuring that all projects have an effective evaluation plan; assisting in the development of peer-reviewed publications regarding project outcomes; participating in the conduct of research and evaluation of programs at the Institute on Disabilities; and securing funding through grants and contracts for research in areas of interest related to people with intellectual, developmental and/or other disabilities.

This position will also serve as the Project Coordinator, responsible for the implementation and management of two current projects, one focusing on transition of individuals with disabilities from school to adult life and one on developing the capacity for respite care in faith-based communities.  Duties will include collaboration with Institute staff within the training and technical assistance unit as well as between units; collaboration with external partners (e.g. other Temple departments, government agencies, subcontractors); preparation of quarterly reports for funders; and management of expenditures. The incumbent will participate on the Institute's management team and will convene the Institute's Think Tank, an incubator for grant and contract ideas. Performs other duties as assigned.

Assistive Technology (AT) Specialist

The Assistive Technology (AT) Specialist will serve as Consumer Educator and statewide coordinator of Consumer Education and Outreach for the Telecommunication Device Distribution Program (TDDP), conducting program outreach at regional and statewide events such as expos, exhibits and conferences and developing and implementing various strategies to increase public awareness regarding the program. The AT Specialist will provide AT-related supports to individuals with disabilities of all ages and their families in the Southeastern Pennsylvania region in the use of a wide variety of assistive technology devices for telecommunication, computer access, activities of daily living, and communication. The AT Specialist addresses the needs of individuals of all ages with sensory, physical, and intellectual disabilities in a variety of settings (e.g. employment, education, community living) through device demonstrations, AT trainings, and presentations; completes all necessary reports, meets established deadlines, and assists with compiling reports from subcontractors for state and federal reporting; coordinates required activities of Microsoft Accessibility Resource Center (MARC); and participates on internal and external task forces and committees to advance the lives of individuals with disabilities.
