Enabling Community Participation in the Bronx (NY UCEDD/LEND)
RFK CERC Einstein/Montefoire UCEDD occupational and physical therapists, LEND trainees, children with developmental disabilities and their families happily joined together to visit epic sites in the Bronx. Tim Conly, OTR cultivated new partnerships with Yankee Stadium and Mosholu Golf Course this summer so that CERC families could tour the iconic baseball stadium and learn to play golf. Therapists and therapy LEND trainees created the optimal experience for participants: enhancing abilities and modifying the environment so each person obtained the maximal benefit during the visits. For many it was the first time to Yankee Stadium, participants were so grateful that one child presented a beautiful picture he made to our tour guide, Paul Ward, creating a lasting partnership. For all, this was the first time on the golf course; golf pros taught us to drive, putt and play a hole.

AUCD Celebrates October as National Disability Employment Awareness Month
October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month (#NDEAM), sponsored by the Department of Labor's Office of Disability Employment Policy. While the Americans with Disabilities Act has made access to buildings, programs, and almost all walks of life, the one area that has stubbornly been slow to improve has been employment for people with disabilities. Join AUCD as we highlight both the need to increase disability employment and the great value that people with disabilities bring to businesses. #InclusionWorks!

New Iowa LEND Trainees have a Capital Time at the Iowa State Capitol
The Center for Disabilities and Development, Iowa's University Center for Excellence on Disabilities, welcomed the Iowa LEND (ILEND) trainees for 2016-2017. Orientation began with a brief welcome by Lenore Holte, ILEND Program Director, followed by faculty, staff and trainee introductions. The group of trainees and staff members then traveled to Des Moines to tour the state capitol building and to learn about state and federal legislation related to individuals with disabilities.

WIHD Welcomes New LEND Class (NY UCEDD/LEND)
WIHD is pleased to welcome the new 2016-2017 LEND class. The new LEND class represents a numbers of disciplines: Advocacy, Audiology, Family Specialist, Genetics, Occupational Therapy, Nursing, Public Administration, Public Health, Psychology, Social Work, Special Education and Speech Language Pathology. The trainees represent 9 affiliated universities: Fordham University, Mercy College, New York Medical College, New York University, Sarah Lawrence College, University of Iowa, University of Puerto Rico and University of the Virgin Islands.

AUCD Welcomes Elizabeth Koss (OH LEND) as the 2016-17 Virtual Trainee
Elizabeth Koss, Liz, is pursuing her Master's of Occupational Therapy at The Ohio State University. She is passionate about working with individuals with developmental disabilities and Autism Spectrum Disorder to increase independence and enhance quality of life. Liz became a Nisonger Center LEND trainee in 2015 where she has worked towards building and sustaining interdisciplinary communication and collaboration. During this time she also found a new passion for advocacy for persons with neurodevelopmental differences and has advocated at the state and national level.
