AUCD Welcomes Laurel Geist (Nisonger LEND) as the 2014-15 Virtual Trainee

Laurel's goal as Virtual Trainee is to create a community among students from AUCD's many programs through common interests, similar career paths, and shared experiences using social media. She has a number of exciting efforts already underway and AUCD is excited for this year's trainees to form a supportive and interactive network. AUCD Welcomes Ben Jackson as Disability Policy Leadership Fellow

W. Ben Jackson III is currently serving as the AUCD Disability Policy Fellow for 2014-2015. He graduated from The Dickinson School of Law at The Pennsylvania State University in May of 2104. Prior to joining the AUCD he worked with Project HEAL (Health, Education, Advocacy and Law) at the Kennedy Krieger Institute as a law clerk. As a law clerk with Project HEAL he was responsible for researching and drafting memorandums on special education law. He directly advocated for clients by drafting complaints for the Maryland State Department of Education for alleged violations of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (2004). He also worked to ensure his clients had appropriate accommodations and placements by advocating during Individualized Education Program meetings.

Celebrating the 24th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act

July 26 marked the 24th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Celebrations will occur across the country, especially as the community gears up for the 25th anniversary next year. The Six by "15 campaign is certainly looking forward to these years' celebrations and the exciting work we have to do in the coming year to achieve our goals.

AUCD is currently seeking a dynamic individual to serve as a Program Manager working under the supervision of the Director, Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Technical Assistance. The individual filling this position will manage technical assistance activities of AUCD's cooperative agreement with the Maternal Child Health Bureau (MCHB).

Iowa LEND Trainees Receive 2014 Alfred Healy Leadership Award in Developmental Disabilities

The Center for Disabilities and Development (CDD), a part of the University of Iowa Children's Hospital, is proud to announce that Kelly Schieltz, Ph.D. and Rachel Nash, MPH are the 2014 recipients of The Alfred Healy Leadership Award in Developmental Disabilities. The Healy Award nurtures in recipients a life-long commitment to leadership in developmental disabilities that will carry on Dr. Healy's legacy for future generations.

The Mailman Center Audiology Trainees Present Their Poster "Preparing Professionals for Working with Children who are Multiply Involved"

The Mailman Center audiology trainees were fortunate enough to present their poster "Preparing Professionals for Working with Children who are Multiply Involved" at the annual Early Hearing Detection and Intervention Conference in Jacksonville in April. This poster provided information for professors, clinical preceptors, trainees, and current professionals to improve the quality of training in their respective programs.
