Prevalence of Disability and Disability Type Among Adults - United States, 2013
New Report from CDC-NCBDDD
NCBDDD's new report describes the percentage of adults living with disabilities in each state and select functional disability types, and presents estimates of disability by select demographic groups. Health officials and other stakeholders invested in the health and well-being of people with disabilities can use this information to better understand and address the needs of this population in the United States.

AUCD Welcomes Alysa Vos (LoneStar LEND) as the 2015-16 Virtual Trainee
Alysa Vos is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst and director of an organization that serves individuals with neurodevelopmental differences in Houston, TX. Alysa became a LoneStar LEND trainee in 2014 where she has worked towards building and sustaining interdisciplinary communication and collaboration and advocacy for persons with neurodevelopmental differences and special healthcare needs. As the Virtual Trainee, Alysa seeks to continue to strengthen the community of trainees within the network, and facilitate the engagement of trainees through information sharing, networking, social media, and other platforms.

Transition Fair: Passport to a Healthy Future (OR LEND)
On Saturday, May 30th the Institute on Development and Disability (IDD) sponsored the 2nd annual Transition Fair: Passport to a Healthy Future at the Collaborative Life Sciences Building on the South Waterfront. With roughly 150 participants, 30 vendors, and seven guest speakers, this year's Transition Fair was a huge success.

Former LEND trainees participate in discussion panel (NY LEND)
New York Medical College student-created organization CONFIDDE (Collegiate Organization for Further Intellectual and Developmental Disability Education) hosted a panel discussion to discuss topics of self-advocacy, healthcare accessibility and communication with people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). The panel included professionals from the healthcare field, family members and a self-advocate. Of the 5 panelists, 4 were former WIHD LEND Trainees.

WIHD NY LEND Trainees graduate
The WIHD LEND Training Program conducted its Graduation on May 7, 2015. The 19 Trainees in the Class of 2015 were joined by faculty, mentors, LEND alumni, family and friends in marking their accomplishments during a poster session, the graduation ceremony and a celebratory luncheon. Congratulations on a fantastic year!

MCDD Law Trainee Receives the The Joseph Bernstein Prize (MD UCEDD/LEND)
Jaclyn A. Machometa, a Maryland Center for Developmental Disabilities law trainee, received the The Joseph Bernstein Prize from the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law in Baltimore on May 14, 2015. Jaclyn received the distinguished award for being adjudged by the facutlity advisor of the University of Maryland Journal of Race, Religion, Gender, and Class to have submitted the most significant piece of legal writing for publication.

Mobile App in Delaware Empowers Young Adults with Special Healthcare Needs (DE UCEDD)
Healthy Transitions is a new mobile application designed by the University of Delaware's Center for Disabilities Studies to help young adults with special healthcare needs build skills needed to gain independence and manage their own healthcare. The app features videos that explain how to handle real life scenarios and an interactive game to reinforce the ideas presented in the videos. The videos are categorized into four sections; healthcare, insurance, healthy lifestyles and relationships.

Military Flag Dedicated to Kennedy Krieger (MD UCEDD/LEND)
On December 11, 2014, the Department of Neuropsychology hosted a special guest at its annual holiday party-Captain Michael Yates, US Army. Dr. Yates is a former neuropsychology doctoral trainee who recently returned from a tour of duty in Afghanistan with the 2nd Brigade Combat Team 101st Airborne Division. During his service as an Army psychologist in the Laghman Province of Eastern Afghanistan, Dr. Yates arranged for an American flag to be flown in honor of Kennedy Krieger Institute on June 20, 2014, at the Forward Operating Base Gamberi, in recognition of all who have served in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Ohio's LEND Trainees Showcase Their Research at the UC UCEDD-Nisonger Poster Symposium
In the entire state of Ohio, there are 39 trainees enrolled in the LEND program. The program culminates with an annual poster symposium featuring the trainees' research projects. This year, Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center had the honor of hosting the event.

Va-LEND Trainee Poster Presentations
On Wednesday, March 25, 2015 Virginia Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities (LEND) held its annual Research Poster Fair at the Kontos Medical Science Building at Virginia Commonwealth University, Medical Campus. Fourteen LEND trainees representing Occupational Therapy, Speech Language Pathology, Physical Therapy, Genetics, Nursing, Education, Social Work and Family disciplines presented posters based on original research or a literature review on a selected topic related to childhood disabilities.
