Mobile App in Delaware Empowers Young Adults with Special Healthcare Needs (DE UCEDD)
Healthy Transitions is a new mobile application designed by the University of Delaware's Center for Disabilities Studies to help young adults with special healthcare needs build skills needed to gain independence and manage their own healthcare. The app features videos that explain how to handle real life scenarios and an interactive game to reinforce the ideas presented in the videos. The videos are categorized into four sections; healthcare, insurance, healthy lifestyles and relationships.

Military Flag Dedicated to Kennedy Krieger (MD UCEDD/LEND)
On December 11, 2014, the Department of Neuropsychology hosted a special guest at its annual holiday party-Captain Michael Yates, US Army. Dr. Yates is a former neuropsychology doctoral trainee who recently returned from a tour of duty in Afghanistan with the 2nd Brigade Combat Team 101st Airborne Division. During his service as an Army psychologist in the Laghman Province of Eastern Afghanistan, Dr. Yates arranged for an American flag to be flown in honor of Kennedy Krieger Institute on June 20, 2014, at the Forward Operating Base Gamberi, in recognition of all who have served in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Ohio's LEND Trainees Showcase Their Research at the UC UCEDD-Nisonger Poster Symposium
In the entire state of Ohio, there are 39 trainees enrolled in the LEND program. The program culminates with an annual poster symposium featuring the trainees' research projects. This year, Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center had the honor of hosting the event.

Va-LEND Trainee Poster Presentations
On Wednesday, March 25, 2015 Virginia Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities (LEND) held its annual Research Poster Fair at the Kontos Medical Science Building at Virginia Commonwealth University, Medical Campus. Fourteen LEND trainees representing Occupational Therapy, Speech Language Pathology, Physical Therapy, Genetics, Nursing, Education, Social Work and Family disciplines presented posters based on original research or a literature review on a selected topic related to childhood disabilities.

University of Iowa Telehealth Project Brings Behavioral Treatment for Autism to Rural Areas
The intent of this project is to evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of conducting behavioral treatment for autism through telehealth to reach underserved areas of a rural state. The study is testing whether functional analysis and functional communication training, conducted through telehealth, are effective in reducing disruptive behavior and increasing positive social behaviors in young children with autism spectrum disorders.

AUCD2015: Submit a Proposal Today
Deadline: June 5
AUCD is currently accepting proposals for our 2015 conference. This call for papers includes submissions for concurrent interactive presentations, concurrent panel presentations, single presentations, and posters. Proposals are welcomed on a multitude of topics on all things disability, including but certainly not limited to advocacy, behavior supports, disability studies, employment, health and wellness, leadership development, self-determination, technology, and much more.

Daline Derival Tells All About her Public Health Career (VT LEND)
Daline Derival, M.P.H., completed UVM's Post-Baccalaureate Premedical program in 2014. She is Program Evaluator and Public Health Core Faculty member for the VT-LEND program, whichprovides graduate-level interdisciplinary training, services, and care to improve the health of infants, children, and adolescents with disabilities.

Vanderbilt Kennedy Center (TN UCEDD, IDDRC, LEND) LEND Training Program Receives Supplemental Funding to Address Trainee Diversity
The Vanderbilt Kennedy Center (TN UCEDD, IDDRC, LEND) Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities (LEND) Training Program will focus efforts on increasing racial and ethnic diversity among its pool of long-term trainees thanks to a grant from AUCD's Interdisciplinary Technical Assistance Center on Autism and Developmental Disabilities. The supplemental funding will allow the program to forge deeper partnerships with historically black colleges and universities, to build awareness of the LEND program among underrepresented minority students who have been accepted to professional schools, and to foster greater interest in the field of neurodevelopmental disabilities among undergraduate minority students.
