Dan Habib Releases "Keeping Families Together" Highlighting the Work of START in Arkansas (NH UCEDD)
Dan Habib, Filmmaker at the Institute on Disability, recently released a short documentary film called Keeping Families Together. Habib's film tells the stories of two families whose lives have been transformed with help from ArkSTART and its partner organizations.

First Connections: Training and Technical Assistance to Support Community Agencies in Underserved Communities to Conduct Developmental Screening and Linkage for Young Children (CA UCEDD/LEND)
The University of Southern California UCEDD was awarded a Training and Technical Assistance 3 year grant, funded by First 5 Los Angeles, to work with six community based agencies to develop replicable and sustainable models for standardizing screening for autism and other developmental disabilities for young children in underserved communities, linking families with early intervention services, and educating parents about developmental milestones and the early intervention service system. The six community based agencies include three Federally Qualified Health Centers serving children with Medicaid, one Family Resource Center, and two social service agencies for young children.

The Think College National Coordinating Center's Annual Report for Transition and Postsecondary Education Programs for Students with Intellectual Disabilities is now available on the Think College website. This report represents the most comprehensive knowledge base related to postsecondary education access and outcomes for people with intellectual disabilities.

Network Members nominated to the FCC's Disability Advisory Committee
By this Public Notice, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC or Commission) held the first meeting and appointment of members to, the Disability Advisory Committee (DAC or Committee). The DAC will provide advice and recommendations to the Commission on a wide array of disability matters within the jurisdiction of the Commission and facilitate the participation of people with disabilities in proceedings before the Commission. The DAC is being organized under, and operated in accordance with, the provisions of the Federal Advisory Committee Act (FACA).

WVU Center for Excellence in Disabilities Partners with Marshall University to Enhance Brain Injury Support Groups (WV UCEDD)
The West Virginia University Center for Excellence in Disabilities (CED) has partnered with faculty from Marshall University College of Health Professions to offer local support groups for those with traumatic brain injuries. The Brain Injury Group (BIG) was created to provide support, education and information about services for individuals with brain injuries and the people associated with them.

CCD Urges Congress to Reject the House Budget
The Consortium for Citizens with Disabilities (CCD), a national coalition of more than 100 organizations representing the needs of people with disabilities, opposes the budget resolution proposed by House Budget Committee Chairman Tom Price, M.D. (R-GA) because it calls for deep cuts to Medicaid, deep spending cuts for non-defense discretionary programs that support the health and well-being of people with disabilities, and would lead to tens of millions of Americans losing their health insurance or becoming underinsured.

AUCD Welcomes Steve Brown, PhD as the New Diversity and Inclusion Fellow
Steven E. Brown is a Diversity and Inclusion Fellow with the Association of University Centers on Disabilities (AUCD). He joins other faculty members from around the country in creating a blueprint for cultural and linguistic competence within the nationwide AUCD network.

American Institutes for Research: Closing the Pay Gap for Workers with Disabilities - Video Available
AUCD's Michael Gamel-McCormick a featured panelist at this event on employment with Rep. Chris Van Hollen
New analysis by the American Institutes for Research finds that those with disabilities earn 64 cents to every dollar their colleagues make, a disparity on par with the gender pay gap. Considering that equal pay is vital to keeping those with disabilities financially independent and out of poverty, our panelists explored the key facts and the ways that policy can help equalize income. Speakers also discussed what recent changes to the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act mean for workers with disabilities.

North Carolina START Central Becomes First Certified START Program (IOD NH UCEDD/LEND)
The Center for START Services at the University of New Hampshire's Institute on Disability (IOD) is pleased to announce that North Carolina (NC) START Central is the first Certified START Program in the United States. START is a national initiative that works to strengthen efficiencies and service outcomes for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and behavioral health needs in the community.

Sachin Dev Pavithran Elected Chair of the U.S. Access Board (UT UCEDD)
The U.S. Access Board unanimously elected Sachin Dev Pavithran as its new Chair on March 11. Pavithran of Logan, Utah is Program Director of the Utah Assistive Technology Program at Utah State University's Center for Persons with Disabilities. He was named to the Access Board by President Barack Obama in 2012.
