Project SEARCH Mississippi (UCEDD MS)

Project SEARCH is an eight-month training program that consists of daily employment preparatory skills training, community development, mentoring services and work internships. The project targets young adults 18 - 30 years old and includes peer mentoring by students at the University of Southern Mississippi. AUCD signed on to a letter to support funding for The Maternal, Infant and Early Childhood Home Visiting Program (MIECHV)

AUCD along with the National Child Abuse Coalition asking leading members of Congress to fund the Maternal, Infant and Early Childhood Home Visiting Program (MIECHV). Funding is set to expire in March 2015, and the program is a wise investment that states have embraced as a sensible approach to health, education, and fiscal challenges.

CCD Letter to House of Representatives urging Members to not support HR 5 as currently written.

The Consortium for Citizens with Disabilities wrote a letter to the House of Representative opposing the current version of The Student Success Act (H.R.5). AUCD signed onto this letter which includes six baseline principles to ensure students have meaningful access to rigorous standards for all students and fully inclusion for students with disabilities in every local school.

OHSU Announces Grant Recipients (OR UCEDD)

The Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD) is pleased to announce the latest recipients of the OHSU UCEDD Community Engagement Grant Program. The OHSU UCEDD, in collaboration with their advisory board, the Community Partners Council, is committed to activating organizations across the State to engage people with disabilities in their communities. To further these goals, the CPC annually solicits applications to fund projects with this focus.

House ESEA Reauthorization Bill Moving This Week! TAKE ACTION!

The full House of Representatives is preparing to consider Student Success Act (H.R. 5), a bill to reauthorize ESEA on Thursday and Friday of this week! While the bill retains some important provisions, such as annual testing in grades 3-8 and once in high school, the bill does not go far enough to support students with disabilities to successfully graduate and go on to postsecondary and employment opportunities.

The interview covers a variety of topics including the Curb Cuts to the Middle Class initiative, access to post-secondary education, and the upcoming anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
